The stupid government shouldn't be telling citizens what to buy or not buy. I use 100 watt incandescent bulbs to heat my pump house and keep it from freezing on cold nights. It also provides light when needed.

I've never had to replace an LED bulb.

Here's the perp. Guilty as sin.

Wrong. It's not a "fact". It's in *theory* that they could supposedly possibly last that long. In practice - they do not. I've not had one LED bulb last 10 years. Most have failed in a year or two.
All of those claims are based on JUST the LED itself. Hook a single LED up to a nice DC source that it can handle and you'll get those 20,000 hours or whatever the claim is. People who don't understand technology point to that number and assume it applies to LED bulbs for the US market. Those bulbs have a circuit board because LEDs don't like A/C current, and if they're dimming they usually do so by PWM (rapidly turning it on and off) to reduce the light output. It's probably not the LED failing, it's the crap required to make it work in a light bulb.
To make it simple for these folks, name another appliance that you plug into a typical 110v A/C outlet that claims it'll last 15 years. Some things may last that long, but most electronics have a 1-3 year guarantee for very good reasons.

Obviously they like it when you buy bulbs that burn out in less than a year, as opposed to 10-20 years with an LED.

I think it’s great. Give me a choice of cheap bulbs or expensive bulbs.

Hey, they are warranteed! LOL

So like $4 a month?
It isn't lights that make the utility bill expensive.

bullshite. You don’t think they’d rather force us to buy the more expensive LEDs that NEVER last more than a couple years at best? Multinationals love these kind of regulations.

Hey, there's a bunch of light bulbs needed for a 10,000 sq/ft estate.

It doesn't really matter what part is failing. You don't replace parts on a lightbulb. If a circuit board fails, the bulb is "bad" and has to be replaced. If boards can't last more than a year, than LED bulbs don't last more than a year.
I don't care about the semantics related to theoretical life span of some individual part of a bulb.
Do you have to purchase another bulb in less than 10-20 years? If yes, then you've been scammed.

Great! Thow away Obama lightbulbs. They're junk.

I don't disagree, I'm just explaining where the erroneous claim comes from. Again, the easy question to ask people who make these claims is what other piece of electronic gear do they guarantee will always last at least 10 years? You won't get too many answers, especially in the days of almost anything with a circuit board coming from China.

He's thinking about unbanning them. So what? Was there anywhere that he mentioned banning LED's? If not, the market will decide between the two.

LED's are better in every way that the old incandescents.
Are they though? On cost? Convenience? For certain applications where heat is desirable?
Nothing wrong with the Edison bulb.

Someone broke an LED, called poison control about how to clean it up. Poison control sent in dudes with Hazmat suits....you can't make this shite up.
Except you did.
This story might have happened with CFL, but not LEDs.

your LEDs haven't last longer, you're doing something wrong. It's just a fact. It isn't sneaky marketing.
You have to read the fine print on led bulbs. They do poorly in fixtures with poor ventilation and can overheat and fail in as little as 6 months.
I had to swap both closed hall fixtures with open fixtures because they were eating LEDs like chicklets.
That's just one example and there are others to be sure where LEDs fail and the customer did nothing wrong.

Just another stupid meaningless gesture by Trump, intended go give the finger to Obama and “environmentalists”. Little or no practical effect on us.
Pathetic, really.
