It is a combination of two ideas.

1) Nationalism - Nationalism believes better solutions are created at a national than a global level. And that caring for the citizens of a country is the goal of the government, apart from and opposed to caring for a global goal. Nationalism is for borders, with distinct cultures and moral values being inculcated within those borders.

2) “Christian” in this context is a belief that Judeo-Christian morality is a better organizing foundation for ethics and praxis than anti- or non-Christian morality.

In short, a Christian nationalist believes in natural law and nations as entities.

All very subversive.

In reality, Christian nationalism is an extremely fringe political movement that seeks to replace our current representative republic with a Christian theocracy. The number of legitimate believers in this sort of thing is unbelievably low, and the overwhelming majority of them are actually pacifists by nature.

Our media is trying to redefine this term (much like they did with “White Nationalism”) to refer to any white christian who supports constitutionally limited government and individual rights for all. Notice how the media is basically completely flipping what side the term is supporting. Those who do not want a theocracy, and actually oppose one, are being accused of, essentially, being theocrats.

It is where you allow gays in America to attend your church, but don't allow them to become members since they're living in open sin. The same as some guy that was openly cheating on his wife in public, but wanted to join the church.

We had a thread that didn’t derail too much a few months back with a nice article on it.

It doesn't exist.

You can look for the fake and manufactured definition on mainstream news outlets.

You have Christians.

You have Nationalists.

Then you have those people who love their country and desire for it to thrive culturally, economically and politically who happen to be Christians.

Here's a cheat sheet: the definition of "Christian Nationalism" that you will find on mainstream news outlets and Leftist-owned informational gulags is one that deploys fringe politics to broad stroke a picture which paints all Christians and Nationalists as bigoted, white supremacist, racist, homophobic, transphobic, election-denying, climate-change-denying fascists who fellate Donald Trump.

Not sure

Is someone claiming it's a "bad thing" to be a nationalist?

A made up term by Democrats to attack to attack their two most hated segments of American society.

It's what Hillary meant when she said "deplorables".

Absolutely correct.

It does not help matters that a fair number of people who are NOT "Christian Nationalists" (pursuant to your accurate definition) are embracing the term and thereby helping to expand its scope.

On this thread, you will see probably a dozen posters embrace the term, when they do not REMOTELY fit your definition.
