Personal accountability is anathema to the young. Especially young single white women.

You’re lucky she has a work ethic.

My father in law said that when a space capsule enters into the atmosphere there is a short period of time where no communication is possible, you just hope and pray you have programmed the capsule correctly.....................that equates to the period of time a young woman goes through

I'm exceedingly happy to report that I recently walked my daughter through the process of working with the insurance company, working with the repair shop and getting a rental car. Some a-hole broke in, busting a window out and stealing the head unit. She's 25, a graduate of OU, conservative with her money, a financial analyst for a commercial real estate company with over $80 billion in property assets. Has a side partnership business with three friends that she graduated with and they have three rental properties they manage.

So I was very proud of her when we went to pick up her car, and when it came time to pay the $500 deductible, as I reached for my wallet she put her hand on mine and said, "I got this."

Very proud papa, here.

So, it isn't ALL of them.

Did you tell her that Trump made it possible for these entitled idiots to not have to pay literally any kind of loan during Covid? That stupid decision is made emboldened these brats to think they shouldn’t ever have to pay anyone back or pay for anything at all period.

So tell her that her problems are Trump's fault?

That will cure her for sure!

I would have directed her to HR at this point. Stop getting personal with the people you supervise.

Who made it possible to not pay:

Mortgages
Rent
Car payments
Student loans
Credit card payments
Personal Loans

For months on end all because a chest cold was killing a bunch of obese and old Americans? Do you not remember this along with the handing out Trillions in needless ‘stimulus’ money like it was candy that was rife with fraud and corruption?

About a year ago I hired a 25 year old in my office. It was her second job and she was excited about the pay raise and the opportunity. She does good work but is generally difficult to be around.

If I was to make an observation about younger Americans is their general belief to live for the day and spend what you got to make oneself happy.

Who would have thunk that?

The dude is def thinking he's going to hook up with your employee or get a threesome going with the lesbians (are they hot?). Or, all of the above.

I wouldn't be able to resist poking back at that. Laughing back at her and saying, "if you don't know, just be honest and admit it."

Or "I didn't raise you to be intellectually lazy."

etc.

But then I don't have children and I'm an a-hole like that.

So why does she still work for you?

That was my initial thought as well.

OP indicated she generally does good work but sounds like most of what she contributes is drama and disruption.

OP could likely find any number of people out there who could “generally do good work” without the negative features.

fire her, they will end up causing drama, or you will end up with a letter from an attorney she found, because she didnt feel comfortable around her work peeps.

she showed her true colors, bail and move on

Another employee ( in his 40s) said “we all had to pay back our student loans” and she started crying.

I had an employee, good worker, and she is a lesbian. Didn't care about that and she never made it some point we all had to care about. But she did make it a point to blame everyone for her money problems. She quit at one point because she wasn't making enough money as she had a masters degree! Worthless liberal art degree of course. She came back a couple years later as the Uber Eats driving wasn't exactly as good as she had hoped either. And yes, she was going off about Trump because of all her student loan woes even though she graduated many years before he became OMB. All this to say, while I agree some of the newer Gen suck, it's really concentrated with liberal white women of any age.

What having a mid 20s employee is teaching me about that generation

GenXer (irrelevant) checking in. Your phrasing is an exhibition of poor reasoning.

I have many examples of hiring people in their 20s who were outstanding, hard working employees that completely outperformed people in my generation with much more work experience in the job. You can bet the slackasses of other generations took issue when individuals with drive and broad understanding of the job were promoted into more specialized roles over older generation slackasses who seemed to think they were owed some form of loyalty based on tenure.

The lesson should be about the fallacies of generalizing. Even larger sample sizes lend themselves to fallacious thinking if you presume your observations apply to all/most people in a sub population.

Shouldn’t we judge people by their individual examples of behavior rather than the demographics they share with demographic based subgroups ? Some behaviors may occur at greater frequency, but that’s not really knowledge that can be applied usefully in the workplace.

Not all are like this. My son just turned 23, is MAGA as frick, has a work ethic that is out of this world, and kicks arse. My daughter (no pics) is in college but easily separates the propaganda from the academics. I’m not worried about her, either.
