I mean, China is at our feet for oil so that’s nice.

Another person who has no idea how the world works. "It's not in my backyard so why should I care?"
Let's see: We have significant economic interests in the middle east, and Iran having nuclear weapons threatens all of that. China, our biggest problem in the world, is propped up in large part by the Oil that Iran supplies them.
Also, you don't have to live in someone's backyard to hit them with a nuke.
Europe, last I checked, was not in our backyard, either, but we sure went there to take out the Nazi's, and no one complained. Everyone knew what was at stake if the rising enemy was left unchecked. Now, we've got a bunch of whiners who know nothing about anything, opining about everything.

If Iran had a nuclear bomb and then used it each of the items, you posted what would happen?
Higher Oil
Higher Gas
The price on each would skyrocket.
Food would become out the means of the average family worldwide.
Farmland would be worth more than a house.
How much would gold and silver reach?
Are you starting to see the domino effect that would make Inflation of 5% look mild.
This was wargame out before many here were born.
Think post-World War I Germany inflation and double it.
Remember a wheel barrel full of money could just buy a loaf of bread.

Biden admin artificially forced prices to be higher than they are now, and you people didn't care.
To think that 20 yrs ago something like what is being done in iran would have the prices way higher, but moves Trump made in his first term and even just prior to it, has helped curb the frick out in the market.

What have we gained?
That's not the right question.
Ask, what have we prevented?
The U.S. has not fought a war to gain territory or treasure in 150 years. The last time was the Indian wars in the West.
No war fought by the U.S. in the 20th Century onward has been done with the goal of gaining territory.
Every one of them have been preventative wars to stop another from gaining advantage and damaging our hegemony.
WWI- Stop German control of Europe.
WWII- Continuation of WWI with addition of stopping Japan from dominating Asia.
Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, Iran. All preventative maintenance to mitigate damage to the hegemony.
This preventative maintenance is not free but keeping the hegemon largely intact has several benefits:
Core Benefits of U.S. Hegemony
1. Global Stability
U.S. hegemony is often credited with maintaining a relatively stable international order by setting and enforcing global rules, underwriting security alliances, and deterring large-scale conflict.
The U.S. military footprint—750–800 bases in ~80 countries—allows rapid crisis response and discourages aggression by rival states.
Scholars argue that the hegemon provides “public goods” like security and predictable trade rules, reducing the likelihood of great-power war.
2. Economic Advantages
The U.S. enjoys unique economic benefits from its dominant position:
With a $27.97 trillion GDP and leadership in tech and innovation, the U.S. shapes global markets and standards.
Control or influence over institutions like the IMF, World Bank, and WTO allows the U.S. to steer global economic policy.
The U.S. dollar’s central role in global finance gives the U.S. leverage in sanctions and trade.
3. Exorbitant Privilege
As the global financial hegemon, the U.S. can borrow at lower interest rates than other countries.
This “exorbitant privilege” lets the U.S. finance military and domestic spending more cheaply than rivals.
Historically, hegemonic powers with strong credit (e.g., Britain in the 19th century) gained decisive military advantages through cheap financing.
4. Military Deterrence and Power Projection
U.S. hegemony rests on unmatched military capabilities:
The U.S. defense budget—$816 billion in 2023—exceeds the next ten countries combined.
This deters adversaries, reassures allies, and allows the U.S. to shape global security environments.
5. Technological and Innovation Leadership
U.S. dominance in tech (Apple, Google, Microsoft) and R&D investment reinforces its global influence.
Leadership in digital infrastructure and standards gives the U.S. leverage over emerging technologies and global data flows.

I hate this talking point. China probably got around 10% of their oil from Iran before the war. All this has done is force them to go to the open market more, which results in some temporary higher prices for them. We’re facing higher prices too.

Calling out the hypocrisy by you lefties. Difference in artificially forcing the increase for something false. If you people would have gotten Kamala in, then it would have been permanent.
Only idiots like the OP think this current increase is a permanent thing. Which is the difference, so no not the same like you want to claim. This move will actually stabilize lower prices in the long term. We'll be fine.

So this war is just about you and BR ? You are aware that an Iranian network was just recently uncovered seeking to bomb dozen plus cities in America right?
Posted on 5/16/26 at 6:02 am to Mo Jeaux
While China relied upon Iran for maybe a smaller portion of its oil related products they did rely on a free passage through there regardless of which port in whichever nation they were getting commodities. Having Venezuela off limits prior put that pressure on a lot more. It suddenly became a huge issue for them , but they do have a more oil reserves than most other nations combined

I can understand your frustration and concern, but it’s a damn war what are you expecting to gain in the middle of it?
