We have one party who wants to increase the numbers on welfare and one that wants to decrease the number.

I'm not disagreeing with that, but we have have heard for years that we cannot balance the budget by cutting welfare. This narrative is pushed on us in order to keep us from demanding that our politicians pursue it. In the meantime, our politicians are upping the ante.

BTW, this does not include payments to illegal aliens...

Actually neither party wants to decrease welfare and social spending. One just talks about it during election season. Pull the piglets off the tit and they start screaming.

Every citizen of 18 or more should be allowed to vote. No denying someone their constitutional rights because they are poor.

Edit - WAIT you are including Health Care in this? I know lots of people enrolled in the AMA because their employer does not provide health care - or they have a preexisting condition or are disabled and cannot get regular insurance. I wouldn't group that as welfare

No. Medicaid is included, but Obamacare is not. Medicaid is a welfare program.

Did you read what I wrote.

The poor can vote. Just don't be on government assistance.

There is an inherent conflict of interest in being able to vote yourself more money.

Workfare would cut that number down again. Then all those on welfare while working a job off the books would face a dilemma.

Could bring back a modern version of the poor farm. Nobody goes without food and shelter, but they have to work to help provide it.

Medicaid

So the disabled. You are mad that the disabled don't get jobs and provide for themselves? Like the blind or mentally challenged? Individuals with disabilities make up 70% of Medicaid recipients in Louisiana.

And children who are on Medicaid - they should also provide for themselves? That's half of Medicaid.

Another percentage are poor pregnant women - who again - have no choice but to carry to term.

There is all this talk on TD about how this is a Christian country and how the solution is to teach Christianity in schools, but honestly the type of Jesus who would get angry about helping blind or disabled persons is very unbiblical.

There is a reason for welfare and it’s barely having to do with helping people. It’s for dependency

I can accept that. Conservatives want to reduce the number, not Republicans.

Republicans generally complain about programs that bump the number up, but in the end, they will go along.

For example: The student loan payoff. Does anybody doubt that at some point, at least a few Republicans will go along with this? For now, they are holding the line. They'll wait until we are distracted with something else and/or the circumstances allow them to sell it.

A link or source for that type of bold claim would be nice.

Or at least a definition of “welfare.”

A welfare state with open borders is doomed to implode. The two cannot co-exist.

I ha e attached a chart (twice) that breaks down the spending by category and tells you how much we spent on each category for the last 5 years. Just scroll up on this page.

To the people complaining about systemic poverty - the answer is right here in the chart.

Job Training - $6 billion of $1.1 Trillion

Why so low? Handouts are 50x this number. Wouldn't you rather spend welfare on job assistance training? Seems uplifting people to support themselves is the answer.

Then why did Republicans cut Workforce assistance in 2023?

Not everyone on Medicaid is disabled.

Why are you in favor of adding as many people to the welfare rolls as possible?

I watched 10 people run red lights on the way to work today. I guess since a few people don't follow the rules we should just get rid of all traffic lights and save some money.

What exactly is your definition of welfare?

Medicaid and Medicare included?
quote:

Two percent of Canadians are on public assistance

They have socialized medicine in Canada.
Is that not a form of "public assistance?"

Please provide links and clarification of "welfare"
