It’s also impossible to do this “surgically” which is the DEM term du jour. They keep saying the same thing about DOGE. We have to make mass changes to make an impact to the incredible deficit we’re running. We have to cut spending while maintaining our level of income. These tariffs are one way he’s looking to do so. I don’t know if it will work either but your analysis isn’t the complete story.

It is impossible to conduct a study to determine where sanctions (tariffs) would work? If this is true (it isn't) its a horrible idea to just paint with a broad brush without regard to what needs painting and what does not. What "surgical" is is its not conducive to sound bites and bumper stickers....and that is the actual point, not cutting the deficit or correcting trade imbalances....it is all about doing something without regard to if the something is doing any good or doing any harm. That is about as bureaucratic a process as you can get....not a good look when you claim your goal is to cut the bureaucracy...slashing for the sake of slashing is the way government has always operated. it is not new....

I voted for change and we are getting that instead of sticking with the status quo of spending money we don't have which obviously wasn't working. Whether it works out in the long run remains to be seen, but I am willing to give it a chance before passing judgment. Anyone who posts here thinking they know how the system works is full of shite.

I'm just happy there's no piece of shite democrat in the white house. I don't care about taxes or tariffs. And I bet most of you in the thread don't really care that much either. It's just a point if argument for you all. I wake up politically happy every morning.

I will give you credit for at least being honest.. So many Magas will twist themselves in knots trying to defend the bullshite, when in reality they just have miserable lives and all they care about is “omg owning the libs !!”

I find this take is pervasive and also fascinating.

We are the strongest economy in the world with the most power projection of any rival. We bounced back faster after COVID and tamed inflation faster than any other economy.

But what we were doing “wasn’t working” because of numbers on a screen. We’re crashing the economy so that our debt doesn’t crash the economy. Really almond activating stuff.

Don’t pretend other countries don’t charge us heavily for tariffs either. The following countries charges to the US:

European Union: 20%
China: 54% (which includes earlier tariffs)
Vietnam: 46%
Thailand: 36%
Japan: 24%
Cambodia: 49%
South Africa: 30%
Taiwan: 32%

All these economy experts saying tariffs are going to be bad. Why are they good for other countries that put tariffs on our exports? They've been doing it to us for years and they're doing well.

these Tariffs are needed.

People keep saying this and I don't know enough to say they are right or wrong so we will see, however; when a product cost more to make/buy that cost falls back on those who are paying for that product and I don't see anything positive about consumers having to spend more.

So how will it benefit me and you?

There's this idea that manufacturing will magically shift back to the US in the long term.

It won't.

Yeah me too.. i hate having interstates to drive on and departments to inspect the meat we consume .. i hate having military defense to protect our country, and agencies that respond to natural disasters .. but im sure , to you, it’s all just ‘waste fraud and abuse ‘, amirite ?
