If they mean new world leader in allowing terrorists uncontrolled access into one's own country land with zero thought or concern of the repercussions against its own citizens - then yeah maybe. I certainly wouldn't wish to be in that hell storm.

I'm curious as to what kind of economic backlash there would be should the US pull out of Germany. I imagine there has to be some serious economies that rely on US military presence.

I actually love having a US base in Germany. Reminds them we fricking won't the WW and the Cold War.

That's right and they have gone mad more than once. Germans have for many years been willing to sacrifice anything for the sake of German unity. Germany can dictate over Europe but not the USA.

Vox: Germany now leads the West

This is such a dumb meme the left is trying to pass off.

Germany doesn't lead shite.

The next major natural disaster......you know which nation will be doing the heavy lifting if any nation does? The U.S.

The next time significant military action needs to be taken, or "peacekeeping" mission comes along.........yep. The U.S.

It's a completely stupid meme that has no relationship to reality whatsoever.

Yes. But, it's the equivalent of pointing a gun at one's foot and then placing your enemy's finger on the trigger.

It's a meme DESTINED to die the MOMENT something bad in the world happens.

Why? Because at that precise moment, exactly what ALWAYS happens, will happen again. The entire world will wonder where...........wait for it.........where..........the UNITED STATES is.

Not a fricking soul will be saying, "is Germany going to send peacekeepers" or, "is Germany going to stop that bad guy" or, "is Germany going to send supplies to that region devastated by natural disaster".

And, at that precise moment, the silliness of "Germany leads the free world" will be laid bare.

Thank you. More Americans need to be aware of their empathy weaponizing bullshite.

Those bases need to stay in Germany forever, to "protect the West from Russia". Any excuse will do, to keep the paper tiger from growing real teeth.

Really, who's defending the west? Let's just pull all our troops out of Western Europe and see what happens

As Trump so aptly pointed out in his speech, "The West", is in a fight for the survival of their culture, language and borders. Germany and France do not appear to have the will to survive.

Germany and pals can try to claim "leadership" of the West all they want.

There is only one leader, and they know who it is.

It's the one they will run screaming to when a bully shows up on their doorstep.

Pretenders like Germany and France talk a big game, but there's a big difference between us and them: we don't need them to ensure their survival, and they need us for that.

You can't be a leader if you have to call in someone across the ocean to defend you from someone who lives next door.

as with Communism, the primary requirement to keep this system going is a near irrational belief in that everything the leader does, is good and proper.

Seriously? You think it's the EUROPEANS who are dealing with that problem right now? It's THEM?

that is what the ethos of Germany has been reduced to: avoiding being called Nazis and refusing to admit the superiority of the US

that's why the EU was so important to Germany: they get to be the "mini-US" and trot around like a hegemon, leading Europe

I wonder if this has been commented on, but I love how the "leader" of the west literally jails people for speaking their minds.

Well said
quote:

this is an interesting topic given all the outcry unleashed on Trump for promoting and defending Western values in his speech in Poland. it seems that the conflict is not about "the West" but what "the West" even is anymore, and more importantly, what Western culture should be moving forward.

I am gratified that Trump is concentrating on Western Culture - I say to hell wth Merkel, Macron, and any other European 'leader' who is willfully sacrificing Wester Culture on the altar of 'diversity.'

It may be too late to staunch this slide towards barbarism. But I am eternally grateful to Trump for embedding some pitons in our climb out of this FrancoGerman-initiated morass.

A modern German could be watching his wife get raped to death by a pack of Muslims and he'd still be happy in the knowledge that no one could call him a Nazi. They'll do anything, and I mean anything so long as it avoids any - no matter how silly and tangential - potential for being equated with Nazism. It's a form of mass cultural madness - a mass suicide far surpassing Jonestown.

This - and there are those in America who do the same thing regarding the Civil War. Since they have nothing else admirable about their lives or their agenda, they live vicariously thru the lives of the brave Union patriots who fought the evil Southern "slavers" and demean anyone who does not don the sackcloth and ashes while constantly caning their backs into bloody pulps.

It is time that modern Germans give up with merely identifying themselves as "not-Hitler" just as southerners have long abandoned 'not for slavery' as their only identification.

Quick Germany, while you're leading ramp up your military production. You'll need at least a dozen aircraft carriers and the supporting ships to go along with it. You'll also need a fleet of nuclear missle subs. Attack subs. Your air force is wholly inadequate for your new position leading the free world. Hey Merkel sit down. You're all talk.

Vox: Germany now leads the West
That's quite a trick.
German GDP = $3.356 trillion
US GDP = $17.95 trillion

Median household income in Germany is only about 2/3rds that of US households.

Germany doesn't even own up its NATO obligations.

Hey Vox!
Let us know how that German leadership works out.
