It's a grift so he can be in the next administration, assuming Biden loses.
He has some ideas that are pretty populist, but also some ideas that are basically 'beer raisers' where people are like, "hell yeah, get dem cartels" - but his plan would be a disaster.

He's a smart guy. But he needs more name recognition, and that starts with an easier to remember, and pronounce name. Maybe Vinnie Ramos?

Why is that a "grift"? There are plenty of capable people who have served in the cabinet without holding lower offices. He is "selling" himself, which seems reasonable to me. I doubt the next Republican president is going to go looking on mountaintops for austere self-effacing ngenuises who shun the spotlight.
If there is a cabinet position he is qualified for and his positions in that area line up wight then sell himself.
I am not a fan one way or other, just don't think positioning for a cabinet position is a grift like whatever reason someone like Christie has for running.

Anyone not named Donald or Ronald in this primary is running for a cabinet position or VP.
Haley, Scott, Vivek, Hutchinson and Elmer know they have no chance.
Christie might run just to attack and take down Trump because he hates him.
