Fire away criminals. Videos, both public and some private, will no longer be allowed to be used to identify you committing crimes. You now have carte blanche to do as you please without repercussions because of technology.

quote:

Portland City Council members voted unanimously on Wednesday to prohibit the public – and, in some cases, private – use of facial recognition technology, making it the most stringent ban of this kind nationwide, according to multiple reports.

Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler and City Commissioner Jo Ann Hardesty introduced the bans, which immediately took effect for city agencies, and will be effective on Jan. 1 for private businesses, The Oregonian and Oregon Public Broadcasting reported.

The ordinances bar the use of facial recognition technology by city agencies and on public property within the city, but also prohibit its use "by private entities in places of public accommodation,” according to city agency Smart City PDX.

I think this is great news. I want that city wiped off the face of the country.

I would ignore this if I had a business there.

Well, if the agendas of the mayor and governor weren't obvious before, this should make it crystal clear.

Here is a workaround - Any ANTIFA member wishing not to be recognizable to scanning software can step up and receive a revolutionary new treatment guaranteed to prevent photo recognition.

Side effects may include Irish sunglasses, broken nose, missing teeth, shattered cheekbones, and incessant bleeding.

Honestly, I don't hate this. I'm not a fan AT ALL of the Orwellian feeling of being watched 24/7 in public...the fact that we've grown accustomed to never not being watched is creepy to me.

I get it why these shitheads in Portland are doing it now, but in a general sense I'm fine with removing the surveillance society that has sprung up over the past 20 years or so.

Have you seen who is running against him? She is openly aligned with Antifa. Makes Wheeler look like Ted Cruz.

I saw this last night. Can we put a scoreboard up tallying the SCORES by Antifa vs. Portland/Wheeler and that goofy-stupid-bitch governor?

This is a win for criminals destroying a city VOTED ON BY THE CITY-COUNCIL!!!

And we are told on here that the Left ISN'T deranged??

facial Recognition needs to be addressed via Congress... however most of of them are Establishment on the GOP side and have been told not to touch it... on the DEM side, they are owned by Big Tech ...

HOWEVER ... this is exactly what it should be used for ... people who have committed felonies should be in a database with Facial Recognition used to track them down... same for anybody who is from rogue states. BUT NOT on everyday citizens of the US... meanwhile in the DC they have their heads up a dark place.

Old school ACLU types would have done this to protect the innocent

Now Wheeler is doing this to protect the violent and the arsonists.

And I'm guessing he'd be all for surveillance and police state activity if conservatives were creating mayhem.

The role reversals are just stunning on the American left.

Is the loophole that they can’t do it using businesses and government on site but CAN take live-streams and do it?

When we started having to lock our homes at night and our cars every time we got out, surveillance became necessary. This started about 50 years ago.
