Why would any business owner or citizen want to live in that hell hole?

I understand it as you can't use images from electronic appliances to arrest and prosecute people. With cop body cams being financed by a government entity does that mean what they record will no longer be admissible?

surveillance became necessary
I disagree. As an innocent person, I'm not comfortable giving up my right to privacy in case someone else does something criminal. Call it that annoying Libertarian streak in me, but I hate that level of shared guilt.
It's why I refuse to get a Ring doorbell or the like. Sure, having a camera on the front door could be useful, and if one day someone stole a package off my door I could have a video of them...but for the rest of the 99.99999% of the time it'll be pointed at the street and at the front yard and door of my neighbor, essentially surveilling his home. I'd resent that myself so would never do that to someone else.

Honestly, I don't hate this. I'm not a fan AT ALL of the Orwellian feeling of being watched 24/7 in public...the fact that we've grown accustomed to never not being watched is creepy to me.
Same here, the surveillance state needs to be dialed back.

Meh, I hate Portland as much as the next person... But your first line is disingenuous...
Unless there is something left out of what you quoted, Facial Recognition Technology is not the same as
They are saying you can’t have the AI generated recognition that you see in airports and the likes.

Do you have a security system installed in your home?

I don't, actually. We built the house in 2004 and was hard wired for it, but I never got it installed. For my purposes, the only real use would be for fire, as I work from home and am here a ton of the time.
Not that it's the same thing, but that feeling of constantly being watched or listened to is why I'll never got one of those Alexa type deals either. and yeah...I know my iPhone is doing essentially the same thing, but still.
I know this is a hold over of my father having grown up with a mother who never let him have any privacy...poor guy's room was right of the kitchen back in the 40's and had a sheet that covered his door. When he'd complain about it, he'd get the old, "If you're not doing anything wrong why does it matter?" speech!
As for Portland, I wish the Earth would open up and swallow the whole thing. I'm not defending those assholes at all...this is just a push back in regards to the ever encroaching surveillance state we live in.

That's some Minority Report nonsense right there.

Judas Priest was singing songs about that shite 30+ years ago, such as “Electric Eye”.

I'm torn here. This is not a technology I root for, but I know why these assholes don't want it, and it has nothing to do with personal privacy.

Exactly. This is obviously a case of criminals wanting to be protected from their crimes.
That said, a broken clock it right twice a day, and even though they're clearly doing this for their own nefarious reasons, not being under 24 hour surveillance in public (or in the case of cameras seeing you on your own property) seems like a good thing to fight against. Small government type of thing.
