It seems pretty straight forward to me.

1) He is advocating for training for daycare providers and workers that removes "ridiculous" certifications. Of course the training would have standards. That is how states regulate the proprietary school industry. Have these states created standards that are over the top, causing undue expense and hurdles to entry for would be daycares?

2) He is advocating for making this training more affordable so that it will be more attractive to individuals to pursue the training and to open facilities.

He did not say get rid of all certifications. He prefaced it with "ridiculous" certifications. We all know the government often creates too many barriers to allow for small businesses to operate profitably.

The majority of Americans think that having family help care for children is a good thing. Maybe you need to reassess who is out of touch.

Reality is he was raised by his grandparent. How "out of touch" are you not to pick up the point of reference?

I always thought there was a market inefficiency with how expensive daycare is, but after looking into it, and seeing a few friends give up on it, there aren't any good solutions in the market. The risks/costs are so high, which makes the wages you can offer somewhat low, which creates a tough balance.

my wife stayed home with our kids when they were little
my kids are 18 months apart
my wife was finishing her degree while they were little
we struggled on just my salary - our parents helped a lot

she decided she wanted to go back to work when my son was 2 and my daughter was 6 months

my wife was a book keeper back then and we quite literally spent everything she made on daycare and associated childcare costs

that was not even a “fancy” day care but a good one where I knew the owners very well

this was around 2000 and lasted until they started school.

which is a whole other thread since we lived in a shite area of St Martin Parish and thus sent our kids to private school in lafayette

we traded day care for tuition and went backwards financially

for a lot of parents the daycare you can afford is not really a place you want to send your kids

the biggest costs and barrier to entry (after the facility cost) for a daycare is labor and the Liability Insurance requirements

so you get a lot of unregulated and unlicensed “local lady keeping a bunch of kids in her house” scenarios

Hopefully the cost gets so high that it makes women rethink working outside the house for the 5 or so years their kids need daycare.

They'll eventually oppose SAHMs and nannies and family caretaking for the same reason they've traditionally been so vicious towards homeschool and private religious schooling.

Do you not think that we as parents we don't try to get help from our children's grandparents?
Actually, I do not think you are remotely intelligent enough to have even thought of that as a possible solution.

That said, I have extreme empathy for your poor children. They have little to no chance to succeed in this world with the handicap (YOU) they have to deal with. I pray they can overcome such extreme odds.

As was already stated, the Biden/Harris administration has had 3.5 years already to do this, but they have not. Don't fall for it.

quote:

Capping Childcare Costs: One of Harris' major proposals is to cap childcare costs for families, ensuring that no family pays more than 7% of their income on childcare. This would significantly reduce the financial burden on families, making it easier for them to afford care.

That's stupid. Price ceilings lead to nothing but shortages and shitty service.

quote:

Universal Pre-K: Harris has supported universal pre-kindergarten education, which would provide free early childhood education for all 3- and 4-year-olds. This policy would help alleviate childcare costs by providing public education options for young children.

Ah, yes, the government has been so good at handling public education, let's just add to it.

quote:

Tax Credits for Childcare: Harris has supported expanding tax credits for childcare costs, including increasing the Child and Dependent Care Tax Credit. This would help families offset the high costs of childcare by reducing their overall tax burden.

That's just stealing Trump/Vance's proposal. Again. The day a Dem lowers taxes will be the day dead people stop voting for them.

That’s already happening.

Nearly 40% of parents surveyed reported quitting work or getting fired since their children were born. About 62% reported missing at least one day of work in the last three months, and one in 10 had been out of work for at least a year since their children were born.

Oh I gotcha he wants less trained people watching our kids with less regulation making them less safe at daycare, more prone to abuse and neglect.

We demand more training and regulations for a job that parents will hire a 15-year-old with no training to do on weekends. More training and regulation is going to mean higher costs. If you think training and regulation removes the risk of danger, abuse, and neglect, then you must not be familiar with medical malpractice, corruption in policing, abusive teachers, etc.

What you want the answer to be is to have government require more training and regulation but also have government control the costs. And after that, the only people available for daycare will be grandparents, aunts, and uncles.
