They take him up to see the Captain, off to the brig for awhile, followed by a COD ride back to Norfolk to eat a big chicken dinner.

They have always had jumpers by purpose and accidental. Just like civilian cruises.
The enlisted are trained in boot camp to use the bell bottom dungarees to float.
Any sailor complaining to mommy needs to walk the plank and see if he can get his dungarees off to float.
