Exactly. And the year prior to deployment is actually harder due to gone/home/gone/home and so on. You have to train new pilots and maintainers and get their quals prior to cruise. They need touch and goes and many other flight training before even allowed to deploy.

Then the 6 months before deployment it ramps up even more as you do both land based and carrier workups. The flight hours increase as each pilot needs x amount of land based touch and goes - this is flying to a remote airfield marked like a carrier and you have to hit your marks as if on ship.

And the pilots are required to have x amount if everything within x days of deployment. So you send detachments ti the ship for a month here and 3 weeks there to practice carrier flight ops both day and night. And you have to move half the squadron or 75% of squadron depending on type training. Its harder than deployment with limited staff and parts. And when you get back hime you have a long arse list of honey do’s to catch up meanwhile closer you get to deployment your work hours increase. And its a lot of effort.

When you finally deploy you have the full squadron together which makes life easier. I always just tackled the day i was on. Just enjoyed and found small things to enjoy. It is hard and there were always slackers and thats been around forever. Some people are grown up spoiled and have never went without. I grew up working since I could walk and had 8 other siblings. Nothing was easy growing up but in Navy I seen enough slackers who struggled with Navy life whether deployed or not.

The biggest morale killer onboard was rumors. People would start them to see how far they go. And they made them believable. Like a port call being cancelled and a few days later the rumor makes it to the Captain who makes an announcement that port call is still on. My guess is due to the extension and wartime ops, plenty of fake rumors were started and spread. This is normal but their rumors might be worse with circumstances.

Flight ops were actually a great thing as it made time fly by. The few no fly days were slow.

Like I said earlier we had jumpers in Persian Gulf in 94. The weather was hot as frick. Some days the wind barely blew and the water looked like glass. It was almost enticing and mentally weak jumped. All recovered and processed out. And sea snakes are a real thing, shitloads of them in the PG.

I just hate the press with a passion. A lot of them are getting some funding from backdoor Chyna. They do not represent America nor care about our country. They have taken advantage of our laws and used against us. Thank God we had great oress during WW2, who kept secrets and held off stories for the good of country. The current crop of press hate America and you cannot hate them enough.

To add, a way longer than normal deployment will have more issues than normal thats not news thats normal. Keep on mind every sailor onboard is getting all kinds of extra pay. Combat pay, hazard duty pay and also when in combat zone all your pay is tax free. Thats a massive anoint of extra money each will have at end of deployment. And end of year their tax bill will be less due to tax free for so long. Especially for married where spouse works it can move you down a bracket possibly.

If no dependent at home then BAS and BAH as well. If I were a young single sailor on that carrier I would tell "Mom and Dad" everything is fully joyed and keep banking the extra pay.
