That was pretty informative. He said losing the Bahrain base was a big problem. He also said no port calls is one of the morale killers. He thought there are political agendas on the reporting, but the math is such that 11 month deployments are going to happen.

I became a golden shellback in '83. We were told there weren't many of those at the time. The old man had us veer off course a bit to make it happen, that I do remember.
