Ok so do away with the police. See how many bad apples you encounter. Idiot. I’ll take my chances with a police force that’s not perfect rather than the alternative.

I would wager that the town of 4000 with 10 officers is a extremely safe place to live. I would also wager that the crime rate is really low.

Well, I can speak to one specifically.

The 10 cops aren't crime fighters. They are literally, 100% road pirates. And yeah, the town is safe. It's fricking lily white middle class and upper middle class. It's fricking Mayberry. LOL. Well, Mayberry plus a street gang.

You sound like a whiny liberal that wants the government to protect him. We have the 2nd amendment in this country and I encourage everyone to take care of themselves.

At least 1,176 people were killed by law enforcement last year - a record. Billions in trainings, body cams, and reforms haven’t stopped it. In fact, it’s gotten worse. We must grow out of this cycle together

How many were killed by officers acting in self defense after communazis like her and Lebron vilified police on the regular?

It was just a matter of time—but actually took longer than I thought it would—until folks like AOC decided to blame the “system,” rather than pointing their proverbial fingers at the officers who made horrible decisions.

I don’t know what exactly happened here; from an outsider’s perspective, the policing looks pretty dang rotten. Watching the video footage is a punch to the gut.

But each time negative outcomes occur within this country we ought to be able to analyze what happened without implementing systematic, sweeping new policies and processes (e.g., removing shoes at airports, carrying clear bags into sporting events, tearing down statues), simply to make everyone feel better. This situation feels like one of those moments when massive, reactionary measures will be taken, when the reality is: There are some very bad police officers out there (with the opposite certainly being the case as well).

Maybe the ultimate conclusion will be that a systemic overhaul is needed? That’s not my call to make. But sometimes a bad egg is just a bad egg. Occam's razor and whatnot. Politicians ought to know that more so than most.

Yeah, I don't know what the answer is to QI. It needs tweaking but dispensing with it altogether is unworkable, especially in our tort system. Maybe if we were more like Germany it could work, but not here.

You can't elimainte it but the current court interpretation of it MUST die.

Cops literally laugh in the face of people who threaten them with action even when they are grossly violating the law. The entire, "take it up with a judge" attitude seen on HUNDREDS of videos now comes from that. They don't give a shite about even knowing the law because there's no penalty for not knowing it.

And even if you go to court and win, the cop who fricked with you is laughing because it caused you the inconvenience of having to go to court to fight their stupidity. And the cop got paid to be in court!

He's literally sitting there lauging at you because he was able to lord his power over you like a common street thug and you can't do shite.

I strongly agree, but also realize that a large subset of America has basically already dispensed with any personal notion of law and are already using that right to "take care of themselves". Every gangbanger whacked on a street corner Friday night kicks off a months long revenge cycle of killing that, if not for the intervention of law enforcement, would escalate into small-scale war. We're already seeing some of this develop in the metros who HAVE taken steps to reduce and defund their police.

Is that the world you want? Go live in New York.

Once again, the media and politicians will just keep ignoring the real problems. And dance around the periphery of the real issues. Pretending to care.

The real dilemma in this country is we expect the people who created and exacerbated the problems, (intentionally btw) to somehow solve them.

You'd think that 2 years of COVID and watching the cops would have caused conservatives to at least blink on the whole cop worship..........but sadly, nope.

Is that excessive? Two 12 hour shifts per day with 3 per shift maybe. Days off for some, sick leave and annual leave for others. You know Mayberry was fiction.

I don't disagree with any of that, I'm just not sure what reform looks like. Them being damn near untouchable isn't working.

Sigh. I can't help you if you don't think it thru.

How much in tax revenue do you suppose a town of 4000 people has to pay the typical police officer? Are you seriously going to pretend you don't know what pretty much 99% of such departments exist for? On an LSU board? I mean, I'm assuming you've been around small towns before.

This particular town's department was 100% blue uniformed tax collectors.

As are pretty much all similar town departments.

It has made me blink. It has opened my eyes to see democrat/liberal/socialist party completely destroy metro areas and now they are working to change the smaller less populated areas also. I’ll take a hard pass on that.

That is one thing I can't understand in this situation. They were wearing body cams. There is a camera directly above them. And they didn't give a shite.

Exactly. It's sickening that they're still supporting them unconditionally. These cops do not care about you. Period.

How many should be on shift? How many hours per week? How much time off? Why are you taking one example and extrapolating it to all, because you just know it to be so?
