And leftists will excuse this because it must mean that Bluesky has the correct views.

That's the way they think. "We'll save you the trouble of trying to figure out what's true and what's false."

THE MASK HAS COMPLETELY SLIPPED.

Keir Starmer is banning social media for teenagers, but guess which app is magically exempt?

Bluesky.

They are blocking every platform that allows independent free speech, while leaving the ultimate left wing echo chamber wide open.

This was never about child safety. It is a highly coordinated plot to trap your kids in a digital bubble and brainwash them with pure establishment propaganda.

They want total control over what the next generation is allowed to think.

RT if you refuse to let the Labour elite indoctrinate our children!

Grok:

The X post claims a "breaking" UK government decision to block specific platforms (TikTok, YouTube, Snapchat, Instagram, X, Reddit, Facebook, Twitch, Kick, Threads) for under-16s while exempting Bluesky. This exaggerates the current situation.

Current status (as of June 14, 2026)The UK government ran a consultation called "Growing up in the online world" (March–May 2026) on children's online safety, including potential age restrictions on social media.

No final decision or official "blocked list" has been published yet. The government is still analyzing responses and plans to announce measures soon (likely in summer 2026).

Legislation like the Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Act 2026 requires some form of age or functionality restrictions for under-16s, but details (e.g., full ban vs. feature limits) are pending.

The rumor originated from Australia's under-16 social media ban (implemented December 2025) and quickly spread as a conspiracy claim of political bias.

Australia (the actual source)Australia's eSafety Commissioner published lists of platforms required (or not required) to enforce the ban.
Included (age-restricted): Major platforms like Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, X, Snapchat, Reddit, Threads, Twitch, Kick.

Bluesky was initially assessed as not an age-restricted platform (along with Discord, WhatsApp, Roblox, Steam, etc.), mainly due to its small user base in Australia at the time (low risk/impact). It was explicitly in the "likely not age-restricted" category.

Bluesky voluntarily implemented age checks and a 16+ minimum anyway (notified eSafety in Nov 2025).

How it jumped to the UKThe UK is modeling its approach on Australia (high-risk platforms face stricter rules/bans for under-16s; lower-risk ones get lighter treatment or exemptions).

No official UK list has been finalized yet (consultation ended May 2026; announcement expected soon).

As soon as UK ban discussions heated up in June 2026, people reused the Australian precedent + "Bluesky omission" talking point. It went viral on X with posts claiming deliberate exemption/favoritism (e.g., the @BasilTheGreat post you linked).

If that is the case, the people on Bluesky are going to be in for a rude awakening

The trolling that will be brought to those figs over there may just make me get an account and some popcorn to watch

Bluesky was built from the ground up to allow for censorship of wrongthink.

Someone in the government has a control panel they can easily squelch or outright ban any post that they don't like.

That Grok analysis is lax in some parts. It does say that BlueSky was exempted from the Australian govt's ban "mainly due to its small user base". What does "mainly" mean; were there other considerations than size? Why choose based on size anyway? If you ban everything else, then BlueSky will obviously grow. That sounds like a convenient way to pick and choose the govt's preferred platforms. Then it says BlueSky implemented voluntary controls. How does the Australian govt determine if BlueSky's voluntary age controls are effective? Presumably they make no attempt, because they don't require BlueSky to impose age limits.

It goes on to suggest that these UK "rumors" are a knee-jerk conspiracy with no evidence that the UK will exactly follow Australia's guidelines. It does not say there's been no UK govt consensus or discussion of giving some platforms, like BlueSky, preferential treatment.

No question. Further, the fact the UK is modeling its law on the Aussies' flawed BS in the first place is ridiculous. I just thought it was worth clarifying where things stand.
