Well said, and that is exactly my point.
I have a sneaky suspicion that "gay porn" in that part of America might be any magazine containing a picture of Elton John at the piano.
I highly doubt there was actual "porn" purchased by the school librarian out in those areas.

The interesting part (to me) is (a) that the local citizen review committee put the vast majority of the books back on the shelves and (b) that the church-lady minority filed criminal charges against the District for following the recommendations of the local citizenry.

I can only speak for myself.
I honestly don’t care about the specific issue all that much.
For me, it is purely a legal question. Unlawful discrimination and deprivation of equal protection both offend me. Having the State deprive parents of the ability to make decisions for their own children offends me to an even greater extent.
To paraphrase Voltaire, I don’t have to agree with you in order to feel rather strongly that the decision is yours to make, for yourself and for your offspring.
And, to be perfectly candid, I think all this nonsense about “protecting the children“ is utter sophistry. Nothing more than one group of people seeking to impose their personal views about parenting upon others who do not share them.

Just because they put gay porn in the school liberry doesn't mean they are coming for your kids.....they just want to be married and left alone.
