Texas School District Faces Federal Department of Education Investigation for Taking Gay Porn out of Its Libraries

The Education Department’s Office for Civil Rights notified Granbury school officials on Dec. 6 that it had opened the investigation following a July complaint by the ACLU, which accused the district of violating a federal law that prohibits discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender. The ACLU complaint was based largely on an investigation published in March by NBC News, ProPublica and the Tribune that revealed that Granbury’s superintendent, Jeremy Glenn, instructed librarians to remove books dealing with sexual orientation and people who are transgender.
…
An Education Department spokesperson confirmed the investigation and said it was related to Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, which prohibits schools from discriminating on the basis of sex, gender and sexual orientation. The Office for Civil Rights doesn’t comment on pending investigations, the spokesperson said.
If the investigation confirms violations of students’ rights in Granbury schools, the agency can require the district to make policy changes and submit to federal monitoring.

Far past time for the Federal Government to get out of the education business...
Public schools are failing and they are more worried about making sure some mentally ill kids' feelings are not hurt than they are about those kids learning to read and write...

What a sick country this is.

I believe this means you can't have a policy that states "gays can not borrow a book from the library" not "you must provide gay porn to grade school children".

Saw that on the tube, NBC was gloating pretty hard.
Violating trans and LGBT kids civil rights... That's how they get rid of gains made by conservatives on school boards and administration in the last election cycle.

I miss DeVos.
This would have never happened if she was still there.

It doesn't seem like he threw out any "gay porn" though. At least nothing talks about "gay porn" that is the commonly used definition of the term.
The use of the word "porn" is being exaggerated for effect in my opinion.

Not having gay- or trans-themed porn in school libraries is not a sign of discrimination. There is literally no right to porn in schools. Kicking porn out of schools is a sign that, every once in a while, sane people run school districts. Sexually explicit materials, particularly those that endorse aberrant and unsafe behavior, have no place in school libraries, no matter what flavor of ice cream they encourage. Non-pedophiles should be able to agree on this very basic concept.

Why should a school provide ANY flavor of porn on campus?

Solicitor General has been arguing to SCOTUS that the word "shall" does not mean what it says it means, when it comes to the Executive interpreting statutes.
They are playing the same game with Title IX and discrimination. They think they can just make it up as they go along.

States are going to have to start standing up for their citizens and protect them against the Feds.

Did they keep all the hetero porn? I went to school for 18 years and had no idea there was a porn section in the library.

Abbott has definitely failed and has put this on the individual school districts. This is why all that Texit talk falls flat. Not going to be any different than it is now.
If TX leadership can't/won't defend their own people from the Feds on something like this, then they won't when they try to roll in the military.
This DOJ is so freaking partisan evil it's ridiculous. Let's not forget it. Seriously the DOJ promoting sexual indocrination of children is the lowest of the low from the vile Democrats. But at this point not surprising.

The actual text of Title IX doesn't mention sexual orientation or even gender. LINK
I think this is where Gorsuch screwed the pooch, and why we've had an all out blitz on this tranny garbage the last year or so.

1. Pornography (regardless of sexual orientation) has no place in school libraries.
2. The books that this superintendent removed do NOT appear to have been pornography, but rather all books related in any way to sexual orientation and/or transgender issues. Texas Tribune
3. The superintendent clarified that he was specifically focused on removing books geared toward queer students: “It’s the transgender, LGBTQ ... sexuality ... in books,” he said, according to a recording of his comments.
4. In the days that followed, the district embarked on one of the largest mass book removals in the state, pulling 130 titles, most of which featured LGBTQ characters or themes.
5. A volunteer review committee comprised of local citizens voted to return all but a few of the titles, and that was done. Two disgruntled members of the committee then filed a police report accusing district employees of providing “pornography” to children.
6. Of the nearly 80 titles conservative activists want to see re-banned, 60% feature LGBTQ characters or themes, according to an analysis of books posted on GranburyTexasBooks.org.
Those are the facts. Let the downvotes and childish insults flow.
