Ah the days eh teke. I saw Jackie Gleason in an interview, when the Honeymooners were drawing on a weekly basis a higher percentage of TV than the superbowl. They were paying him more than anyone, something around 20 grand, his next contract he wanted 100 grand and for it to be filmed in Miami Beach (so the entire crew could have a working vacation). Agent said they would laugh them out of the office.
Big day came, Jackie has stayed out all night drinking, they show up for the meeting, he, his agent, and about 10 lawyers and accountants from the studio. They start and Jackie passes out. Said he woke up his agent was poking him saying, we gotta go. We get outside and he said what happened. He said the head of the studio took one look at you asleep and said "what the heck, if he is so unconcerned, just give it to him". They knew he had em by the cajones. Too funny.

Nope. Ross would be transgender. Monica would be black. Chandler would be gay. Joey would be Hispanic. Rachael would be east Asian and gay. Phoebe would be the same. Because her character sucked anyway.
Imo, that lineup would only last 1.5 seasons. Because instead of having great episode plots like the original show had.. the new episode plots would just revolve around the characters being Asian, gay, Hispanic, black and gay.

Hasn’t heard that story but you usually hear the opposite of that.
The case I am thinking of is where the Three Stooges were making Columbia money hand over fist but the studio kept making them think that the shorts weren’t in demand and that they needed to be glad they got a shitty deal to stay employed.
About the only good parts of that are that Moe kept their rights to their personas and that, when they finally did get canned, those shorts got released to TV and ended up giving them a new life on tour and on TV / movies.

No because those show were created to be funny and entertaining.
Shows today are designed first to push a subversive agenda.

I know “Seinfeld” premiered several years before “Friends,” but I always thought of “Seinfeld” as a dark satire of “Friends.” The dolts on “Friends” were presented as cute and lovable when in fact they came across as insufferable narcissists.
“Friends” was wholly derivative of the cardboard cut-out characters (the witty one, the blond ditz, the bitch, the cutie-pie, the dumb jock, the shy nerd) seen in the John Hughes films of the 1980s. I remember thinking that the country is fricked if this lot of oafish louts was marketed as representing the values of Generation X.
I was dating a girl who loved the show and wasted far too many Thursday nights watching the same utter idiocy time and time again. I can honestly say that I felt my IQ was diminished while watching that drivel.
My girlfriend’s love of the show led me to realize what a shallow and unthinking person I was dating and I dumped her after sitting through one episode too many. That was a happy day and my best memory of the show..

Oh, it was definitely planned. Now we have Gillette commercials with black men keeping white men from harassing women. Real-life statistics be damned.
Imagine being able to use real statistics to make decisions in today’s America. Half of the crime in America is committed by 6% of the population but you are a racist if you point out facts. It is mind blowing.

I loved Seinfeld because it showed the absurdity of nihilism, whether consciously or not.
“Seinfeld” was an extremely dark and brilliant meditation on existentialism that was framed by farce. The famed “Chinese Restaurant” episode was an absurdist reimagining of Jean-Paul Sartre’s play “No Exit.”

Stereotypes are a common literary devices used for as long as people have told tales and across the entire spectrum of fiction, from James Joyce to Penthouse Letters.

I’ve been doing a rewatch and no, it could not air today in a major network.

Is this anybody's idea of real progress? Welcome to the dumbing down of America. Obtw, it's only going to get worse.
Complaining that tv shows are no longer 100% white is a very strange hill to want to die on and equating adding one Hispanic dude to the cast of show set in a very diverse city is dumbing America down is telling on yourself. Anyhow, here's a list of great shows with all-white main casts for you to enjoy at the next Konklave.
Ozarks
Succession
The Crown
You
The Affair
Penny Dreadful
The Sinner
There's also a ton of Scandinavian shows on Netflix if you can stomach sub-titles. Not a negro in sight.

It is actually closer to 1%.
5/6 of the black male population don’t commit crimes. The issue is that while 1.5 million criminals are locked up, the other 1.5 million are being violent criminals. It has to suck to be a black guy and be judged by society using that 1% as the basis for that judgement.
The issue is that white liberals just can’t wrap their collective heads around the fact that a decent sized portion of our population is criminally inclined. Honestly, I wish that there was more room in prison for white trash, Hispanic gang members etc.
A criminal is a criminal. Lock them up, and give them options to better their lives (learn to read, learn a trade skill, or join the military). Non-violent criminals are serving sentences that are too lengthy. Give them the options above and reduce recidivism rates, free up cell space, and clean up society from the violent predators that are out and about as I type this.

But it was at their expense because they were nerdy losers. So it's ok.
I mean Seinfeld’s thing was they’re all bad people.

As innocuous as they want you to believe it was, "Friends" fostered an immoral cultural shift.
You have to give Lefties credit for recognizing what is influential and then using it to further their ends.
Otherwise I'll have to take your word for it about the effects of endless watching of trendy shows. I never watched Seinfeld, and only saw one episode of Friends and thought it unrealistic. Though I did sport The Haircut just like every other Generation Xer young adult in the 90s:

Friends sucked then and it sucks now.
Can’t even get past the gay intro song and all that phaggot clapping.
I never understood the appeal, other than to conclude that we are fricked if millions like this dogshit show.

The answer is hell no.. and I'm surprised they are even still airing reruns since both are full of gay jokes and racial stereotypes

It's good to know that I missed nothing by not having TV / cable in my humble little apartment. Only a landline, lol. Internet was some new fangled thing my supervisor was drooling over.
May be I Should busy myself acquiring a hard copy of this comedy gold before it's banned:
