And Smartass? This tax should be paid only after a vote for it by the legal voters of the city.

The same people that blame the boomers for everything would welcome this nationally to fund their reparations.

You said

That makes this essentially a tax on everyone.

How does a tax on second homes make it a tax on everyone?

What percentage of New Yorkers do you think own second homes? What is your threshold for "everyone"?

The irony is that property’s taxes are used to pay for local services - police, fire, schools, sanitation, etc… and this surcharge is being levied on the property owners that don’t reside there full time.

Meanwhile, Hakeem Jeffries pays less than $250 a year on property tax for his $1.2 million Brooklyn condo because of a tax subsidy law that he helped pass as a NY state legislator.

Many people own "second homes" that they rent out to others. When you rent from someone, you are paying the taxes.

It's pretty funny too when he doubles down on a point and gets proven wrong/contradicts himself, he will just quietly fade out of the thread.

We really should implement intelligence tests before allowing people to vote.

Supposedly, investigations/audits are revealing a lot of questionable stuff in that Mayoral election. Whether anything ever comes of it, I won't hold my breath.

TDSFPLC couldn't wait to get on here and white knight for Mamdani. Totally conservative, y'all!

Guess he missed the link to the article with the guy talking about his 81 y.o. mother who only has that one condo she's lived in for 30 years being hit with the pied-à-terre tax.
