Gov assistance should be a TEMPORARY solution to help people get back on their feet. Not a way of life passed on to generations.

I can remember a black woman who was receiving a promotion calling in and talking to Rush Limbaugh for advice because she was thinking of refusing the promotion because it would mean she would no longer be qualified for government housing.

Rush explained that the premise was for it to always be a temporary solution, not a permanent one.

Sad that Democrats trap people into believing they can never do better than what the Government can give them

Holy shite. This is huge. Lots of people getting rich off section 8 and taking advantage of the system.

If you have ever dealt with people that live off Section 8, there is no universe where a normal person would want to deal with tenants like that.

This should definitely fix the homelessness problem

Hunger is a great motivator. They need to get a job and support themselves. Most people dont mind helping those in need but it shouldnt be for a lifetime.

Maybe if these people (people on assistance) knew that their time was limited maybe they would make their children pay attention in school and get better grades. Instead of not caring because they know Uncle Sam will take care of them forever.

I have a very hard time thinking blue states will get in line with this. But if this is truly just federally funded only; then they can pull the plug.

Then the blue states can create their own section 8 style entitlement program and fund it from the state coffers. Of course that means they'll have to raise taxes on productive members of society in order to fund it, which further motivates those who actually work for a living to move to red states.

We tried Section 8 at our duplex ONCE.
We were experiencing yearly vacancies that were costing us as much to turn over the unit as what we were making. We were looking for a more longer term commitment and figured why not?
The County sends a rep out once a year to inspect the place to make sure the tenant and landlord are keeping the place in proper condition.
We rented to an Army vet that was learning the HVAC trade. Young guy in his early-mid twenties with an ugly fat wife and three kids.
Shortly after they moved in we met the whole family in person. Army dude and his ugly fat wife seemed distant from each other. Two of the kids, around 5-6 years old , couldn't even talk and mostly made grunting sounds. Uh oh.
Anyway, four months after they move in Army dude loses his shite and totally destroys our unit. Apparently he had PTSD from his short stint in the Army. We called the County guy up and told him to get that arsehole and his family out of our property ASAP.
He removed them and wanted us to stay in the program. We declined.

My neighbor has 3 section 8 houses he owns. He knows I am building my rental portfolio and tried to convince me to turn a few of mine into section 8. He's also black and already hates Trump. I can't wait to tell him this news.
We used to do the elevation certs for a guy whose family made their wealth off of housing societal leeches for the government to the tune of hundreds of section 8 houses scattered across Jackson and the MS Delta. Some of these homes were 3 generations deep of the same female family members living in them with no intent to work other than being a semen collector in order to make babies and get a check.

The homes we surveyed were abhorrent. I'm talking real world slum lord type stuff. Entire families with generations of able bodied women breeding with no intent to ever better themselves or their condition. No incentive to work, deincentivized to have a nuclear family, only incentivized to create more subjects of the state at taxpayer expense. It's a testament to the indomitable human spirt of the American taxpayer that we've been able to make it as long as we have being assaulted from all angles and for so long.

There’s going to be a lot of “Investment Property” owners who won’t like this.

This would probably also end up depressing housing costs in time, b/c this is free money fueling a lot of the RE market.

From an investor from the article.

quote:

But the trade-off is a near guarantee of dependable longer-term renters and rental income. If that’s compromised, some landlords say they’d pull back from the federal subsidy programs.

Brad Suster, who owns 86 Chicago-area units funded by HUD, said accepting subsidies could become risky.

“Would we have the same reliability that we know has traditionally come for countless years from the federal government?” Suster said. “That’s something landlords and owners want to know is there.”

So the investors want to stay on the federal gravy train instead of competing in a capitalist market. frick 'em.

While I think this is a step in the right direction, it needs to be coupled with reforms banning single family housing from being purchased by corporations/hedge funds that make pricing non-competitive, perhaps also limiting foreign investment in single family housing, like many other nations already.

I also manage a lot of evictions and once evicted then it would be criminal. The grey area as many cops see it is that this guy was still under his lease when he caused the damage.

Yeah, that's the issue with squatters who will show the police a fake lease. Some states started making it a crime to squat which does give the police the ability to immediately arrest the squatters which effectively evicts them.

One aspect of this that is not being addressed: Under the current system, these Section 8 housing residents are, for the most part, contained and restricted within certain areas. I believe that is by design so the government can keep them where they can watch them and have better "control" over them. If these containment areas are broken up, Section 8 druggies, welfare kings and queens, and homeless people will be redistributed all over, maybe to your neighborhood. Be careful what you wish for. Just my opinion.
