Damn McDonald’s.
I guess you can’t have it your way.

McDonald's using AI to price their menu is what's driving up their costs. Taco Bell has to be the highest. It's highway robbery what they are charging for tortillas, ground meat, and cheese.

mcdonald's up 100% but still cost half taco bell costs

Almost like private equity buying up all of the foodstuff most commonly consumed by the poorest people (who are most sensitive to price increases) and trying to pivot them to compete with higher end restaurants (whom they also own yet simultaneously raised prices and reduced quality on) to the point that fast food and fast casual became more expensive than traditional family dining and mom & pop restaurants was a predictably bad idea. When your whole brand is being cheap, convenient, and low quality; people get mad when you make it less cheap (while also somehow still lowering quality).

I was told that it was GLP-1 agonists that were killing them.

Could be people found out McDonald’s isn’t real food. I know it’s my hang-up with them…

That chart doesn't show anything "killing fast food restaurants "
It's definitely ugly for fast food consumers though

Shrinkflation was real too. However, survival of the fittest. We have too many. Makes choosing much easier. As long as Jersey Mike's survives, I will be OK.

Meanwhile Chic-Fil-A is killing it. Who would have thought treating customers with respect, having quality food, and not hiring hood rats is a winning formula?

My wife and I make 90% of our food and we put away a lot. As much as I might enjoy the ocassional fast chicken from Popeyes, I find myself saying, "Calories. Fat. $$$." Then go home and eat my own food. Fast food, right now, is just too high a cost for the convenience. If I had the space, both in refrigeration and land, I would raise my own veggies.

You realize Chic-fil-a is level with Burger King and Arby's on that chart right?

Off topic...has anyone else on this board completely changed their ordering habits at fast food? Up through 2010, I would always do a combo meal. Now, the combos are all inefficient and more together than ala carte. I will now at Wendy's just grab a couple Crispy Chicken and no mayo and keep canned drinks in the fridge and have one.

The table could just as easily be titled Fast Food Labor Cost since 2014.
