That you consider the president speaking directly to another foreign power in a closed setting about a specific topic and the SOS storing untold amounts and variable nature of classified information in the open equal, regardless of content, is the biggest farce of them all.
One is a crime, one is not, and that's even before we discuss the content of the disclosure.
No I consider both to be the breaking of national security protocol, showing very poor judgement, and in this case, apparently directly divulging classified information to a non-ally that is often on the opposite end of our national positions and interests in Syria.
I find it farcical that many of you can reflexively defend this behavior when you just spent the better part of a year - and into the present day - condemning that sort of behavior and poor judgement.
If the best you can do is to try and play matters of degree, well, what does that really say?

NYT says they talked to the source.

What was the classified information:???
Is it that they are banning laptop computers from certain countries?
Isn't this pretty common knowledge once they start doing it??
What is classified about that if you have an overt policy doing the very thing?
Is there more? - Did he tell them how we knew about it?
What is the story here?? been out of the loop all day.

God none of your idiots understand 3D chess. The main strategy employed by masters like Trump is to put your opponents in a position so powerful they think they can't possibly lose.
Essentially you must sacrifice vital pieces unprovoked at the outset and throughout, as this will make your improbable yet inevitable comeback seem all the more brilliant, except for when this strategy occasionally fails because your opponent is so stupid that they try to triple checkmate you instead of moving pieces errantly in a perplexed and hapless manner.
Trump has the Russians, the Koreans and the true enemy, the liberal media, right where he wants them.

I figured as much. More fake news. Have you noticed some poster have come out of the woodwork as well as new trolls like the Sergy one with 10 posts?

Doesn't the President have the right to declassify anything? At least that's what the Dims were telling us when it was proven that sHitlary had committed thousands of felonies with classified information.

If ... If ... If ... If ... If ... If ... If ... If ... If Trump actually did this, he screwed up bigtime. That's easy! No question about it. Unfortunately, the WashPo is not a credible source. Nor are its goto leakers.

I consider this a stupid position in this case, since you don't know if it's true, nor do you know what was communicated. The reason you need to know that in this case and not with Hillary's bathroom server is that the act itself does not break protocol, and the president is given broader authority and judgement on what he can disseminate. Saying it was poor judgment is premature. The very act of using an unsecured server does break protocol (and law) and was very poor judgment because she did not have the authority to do so.
I'm not even defending Trump, but the office. This isn't an extreme view or difficult concept.

Yes, this was not illegal in any way shape or form.
But that doesn't mean it was a good idea.

Basically Trump chopped his dick off with the Comey debacle and now he's trying to throw it in the Vitamix.

You think this hasn't been routine with every president? They share info, always have, always will.

So this has not been released publican yet?? just info passed on to the Russians??
hmmmm. If it was a Russian city, then it might be a good idea to give them a heads-up - but I am not up on my spymanship.
It would need to be conveyed in a way that didn't reveal sources or procedures.
I know that in WWII, Churchill allowed a British city to be bombed without warning even though they knew it was coming - just to protect the fact they knew how to decode the Nazi communications. Tough times demand tough decisions and tough consequences at times.
