No tolls but now we're tolling.
It's the Inception of tolls.

Hard to believe but things just keep getting dumber.

I don’t think the 20% is legal

Trump declared the U.S. is now "THE GUARDIAN OF THE HORMUZ STRAIT," demanding a 20% reimbursement rate on all non-Iranian cargo passing through the waterway to cover American military costs.
Good luck with that.

Good luck with that.

For whom the bell no tolls.

It's not accepted by free navigation standards but "international law" is also sorta hocus pocus. If the US wants to toll something there's about 0 people who could stop us. Practically speaking.

You mean to pay for the military expenses the US is incurring. I would think a scholar such as yourself could understand that but unlikely

Huge surprise you don’t think it’s legal

I support using the Us military to safeguard the strait but not a fan of the tolls. It’s not really freedom of navigation if you have to pay for protection. I could see maybe tolling some of the European countries that didn’t let us use their bases or airspace for the war.

Oh hell yes!! POTUS Trump is a genius. Lloyd's and GB are pissed. From now on, the USA makes the bank for protecting that trade route.

"Gulf of Mexico" ---> "Gulf of America"
"United States of America" ---> "The Guardian of The Hormuz Strait"
"Gulf of America" ---> "Gulf of The Guardian of The Hormuz Straight"
gonna need a bigger map

Can someone give me a bulleted list of what we’ve accomplished in Iran since March while spending 100B+?
Posted on 7/13/26 at 9:46 am to B747Tiger
So the US government should pay for providing protection because other nations choose not to? Nah terrible idea, toll seems fair until other nations stand up to Iran

I recognize the quagmire this is, and it is exhausting. Also Trump going back and forth on his positions has been frustrating.
With that said, why shouldn’t we get 20% if we are dealing with it?
Everyone else in that area specifically NATO freeloads trillions off of us. About time we collect honestly.

We’ve significantly degraded their military to include their drone and missile force.
However we haven’t really accomplished any political goals.
Iran is still capable of threatening the strait and even shutting down basically at will.
The Islamic regime is still in charge.
Iran’s proxies continue to engage and threaten most of the Middle East.

I believe the straight was open and free before the war started

Yes. I’ll go even so far as to say America should put its military members in harms way to accomplish the goal.

POTUS Trump, even in the 80's and in several interviews, has stated time and time again that when the USA goes in to solve a problem, that solution must be paid for from the resources of that problem.
With that being said, who wants to cause problems now knowing they will have to pay for it?

If you want to live in reality. We're causing problems and we're paying for it.
