re: Trump: Iran must pay reparations!!!!

When OMB decided to bust a move against Iran with Operation Epic Fury it was no longer a limited military operation to pester the Islamic Regime like Operation Midnight Hammer. The US and Israel would not admit it but the original belief was if the US and Israel shite stomped Iran for a few weeks the Islamic Regime would splinter and some form of a domestic uprising would occur....didn't happen. Now we see the vast majority of Persians firmly standing against the US and Israel and now they view their Islamic Authoritarian government as their best hope of maintaining some semblance of a civil and functioning society. I think the Pesrians are wrong by standing with the Islamic Regime but what are they gonna do without some organized armed resistance....they're screwed. The Islamic Regime knows they hold power until an external military force takes it away, and they're betting the US and Israel do not have the guts/balls to try some massive ground invasion to unseat them.

No but that still doesn’t change the fact that Iran is not in a position of strength. Trump not Iran decides if talks continue or bombs start falling again. The only hope Iran has is holding out until next year and praying that the democrats win the midterm elections. Even that doesn’t give Iran much leverage since the war powers act has never been accepted as constitutional by any President and if the democrats tried to invoke it then it would be tied up in the court system for months.

Did you leave it off because you're ignorant of what he meant or because it would make people realize he didn't really express the sentiment that you want them to believe?

If you want our soldiers to be able fight wars without being hamstrung by political objectives, then you should have no problem with what Trump said.

If you're okay with more soldiers dying because public sentiment determines the ROE, then I can see why it would bother you.

Sigh. Where to start…

1) I imagine he takes your quick loss of respect seriously since that’s most likely the first time it’s happened in his life and Presidency. Actual leaders making tough calls are always on guard for this.

2). Nothing says good negotiating tactic like admitting you fricked up while in the process of the negotiation

3). I’m sure you have plenty of examples of 21st century Presidents who have admitted they fricked something up. Especially while it was on going in their admin. Or after it was over.

It’s clearly getting to the frenzy portion of this subject where posters aren’t even thinking before typing.

For Iranian leaders, this is existential. For US leaders, it’s political. In weighing factors of determination, I’ll take existential every time.

Throw in the religious angle that suffering and dying for the cause is Allah’s will, and you cannot defeat that with political maneuvering and bombs.
