re: Trump deserves rich criticism for this tariff decision, it's not free Market conservatism

TRUMP isn't a free market conservative he's a nationalist.

It's all fun and games when the fedgov is throwing subsidies at you.

Indiana
Missouri
Ohio
Pennsylvania
Michigan
Wisconsin
All have Senate elections in 10 months. Trump is rallying his blue-collar working class baw base. He can actually be an asset on the campaign trail in Missouri, Indiana, and Ohio if he plays his cards right. And we have shots to pick off Michigan and Wisconsin as well.

"You have to take the good with the bad."
Why? The OP is addressing a specific policy. Seems to me that it's imminently appropriate to do so even if you agree with other policy decisions.

Is Sasse a highly stabile genius? If not, why would i care wtf he has to say on the matter?

interesting enough, Musk opposed this tariff

Agree 100%. drumph is stealing any real tax break middle class folks got. Tariffs benefit only big businesses and anyone that believes that it brings new jobs is a fool.

Exactly. Pretty sure that Sasse predicted Trump would lose 48 states to Hillary. He also tried to undermine Trump's candidacy by publicly supporting the idea of a third-party run by Kasich, French, Romney and finally McMuffin the cockholster. Pretty sure he's going to try and undermine Trump again in 2020.
Sasse's political instincts have proven to be worthless. Why should anybody who's remotely #MAGA care about Sasse and his tonedeaf opinions?

Sasse is the Weekly Standard's puppet. It is quite sad. What Norman Braman is to Liddle Marco, TWS is to Sassy.

Yeah it's also South Korea, who we are willing to go to war for in order to protect.

Yes. But all the focus seems to be only about China. And there was already a tariff on solar panels made in China.

Trump isn't a conservative in all aspects of policy. To him, fair trade is more appropriate than free trade.

Wasn't it a tariff on solar panels? That has nothing to do with appliances

It includes appliances as well

For you people who claim this helps jobs here: what about the jobs that will be lost because families buying appliances will have less disposable income due to higher prices? Every extra dollar they are forced to spend on a washing machine is a dollar they cannot spend buying a microwave or a grill for their backyard
It depends on the situation. If the country is importing cheap product into the US because it uses child labor, or has inhumane working conditions and massive pollution issues, its a moral issue for the US. If the country enjoys ridiculous and uncompetitive subsidies, or imports products from nations with slave labor conditions only to repackage and dump product into the US and manipulate markets, a tariff might be a great way to bring about positive change. There is also currency shenanigans, local content laws, and many other case studies that we've seen in recent years.
No one complains about trade embargoes this way, because they view the embargoed nation as reprobate. This really isn't that different.

Tariffs can be good or bad depending on the situation. It's one of those complicated subjects where it depends on the industry and whether the benefit is worth the cost
