Not if we pass a federal constitutional amendment.

At least make people who live in trailers below the homestead exemption amount pay something too so my property tax can come down. Why am I punished for “owning” property by having to pay for libraries, schools, and mosquito abatement while they get off scot free?
This was a Repub effort in Louisiana several years ago. Louisiana, you know, the state that lets industry off the hook for property taxes via ITEP? How about everyone should pay what they owe or no one pays at all?

Without ITEP, this state becomes Mississippi.

Well, that's dumb in places like FL
They are already talking about adding it to the state constitution here.

Idk if I'm a fan of this. The revenue from property taxes is used to fund services by the state they are required constitutionally for the state. Things like education and other projects that typically are gonna help raise my property value anyways. The revenue would have to be made up in someway atleast for Oklahoma to effectively operate and provide required services.
It’s really not fair for the property owners alone to have to foot the bill for everyone’s services.

Let me guess: It ends in 2029?
This comes from a yuge Massie supporter, who voted in favor of the 2023 fiscal responsibility act that removed the debt ceiling and allowed Biden unlimited borrowing...until January 2025.

That may never happen again, given how it’s structured.

No standing. Literally.
I don’t think Trump is talking about suing states, so why would the feds need standing? I think an executive order or congressional statute banning states from doing something not in conflict with the constitution should probably be overturned… but I would support a ban on property taxes, in whatever form would stick. They might be able to connect the dots somehow without an amendment. That’s outside of my wheelhouse though. I just think if government has the power to seize your property, due to not paying protection money (taxes), or imminent domain, or jacked up forfeiture laws / rulings… do you really OWN the property? Seems like government is behaving like the owner / landlord.

As someone who pays about $20k in property taxes in Tx I fully support this.
Bought my house end of last year and I think I’m at 16k
for 2025 on my escrow. It was a shock coming from $7500 in Baton Rouge. Made my 1st payment in January of this year. Got my 2025 tax assement at it was fricking $475,000 more than I paid for the house in December of 2024

I guess some people hoped he’d knock out a 4 year term in 1 bill and 6 months.

We’ve left you in the dust in education. Might be time to pick on another state.

The biggest problem I have with homeowners taxes is you should be locked into the tax rate that you bought the damn house for at the very least.
Being taxed for years on unrealized gains as your property increases in value until you sell the home is the biggest fukin scam there is.

I see this headed for a flat consumption tax across the country.
They have been talking about 14% on all new goods, except medicine and groceries, for a while.

Property taxes are the worst of all taxes. You can own your house and the government tells you how much they think it’s worth and tax on their estimate. They can also vote to increase your tax on the house you own outright. People are getting pushed out of their home they own because they can’t afford the annual tax and the government sends notice they are selling your house.

I'd rather ban income tax. It's the most harmful tax on ambition
