That moment when you realize food stamps are actually corporate welfare will be an eye opener.

Whether it's medical care or food stamps they believe they are entitled to the same things we work and pay for...so basically they have no desire to change their situation. If they were limited maybe they would be motivated to become productive in our society.

I saw somewhere where 70% of EBT purchases are Sodas.

Oliver Anthony mentions this in "Rich Men North of Richmond"

"We got folks in the streets
Ain't got nothing to eat, and the obese milking welfare.
Lord if you're 5'3" and 300 pounds
Our tax dollars ought not pay for your bag of fudge rounds"

And require them to be called food stamps. The name Food stamps has much more shame involved in using than ebt does.

Are you going to force grocery chains to open stores in urban and rural food deserts? Thought not.

No thanks. Can’t solve this problem with another government run program.

Why do we as a people allow food stamp recipients to purchase junk food with their stamps?

Needs to be sustenance only.

My church just completed a program where we created 3 years of meals for an entire large school in two hours.

Soy, rice, vitamins and powdered veggies.

If it’s good enough for those African kids….

And it’s super cheap.

They should only be allowed to shop at state run food depots that only have staple necessity items on hand.

I have often posted that the cards should only be usable at designated food drop spots where a truck pulls up every two weeks. And only people who can walk thru a skinny gate allowed in. Nothing available except staple food items.

I would also add that stores need to meet size and product requirements before they can accept government assistance payments.

Hole in the wall stores have no business being involved. Also, the taxpayers would get more value for their money.

And those African kids will end up in America, embarrassing their cousins with their hard work and success rates.

Of course you can. You'd just have to buy it yourself.

Meanwhile, back on planet earth, there's not a politician in DC willing to piss off CocaCola and WalMart by restricting SNAP. Neither party really cares about poor people but they both care about Coca-Cola and WalMart.

I worked for Kroger in the mid 1970's. Food stamps could NOT be used on cokes or cookies or candy. They could NOT be used on ready to eat items from the deli like fried chicken or macaroni and cheese or a birthday cake. Of course no dry goods like paper towels or Tide were allowed. At some time in the intervening years these rules changed.

How is this going to be any different than alcohol or cigarettes? Food stamp recipients will just use their EBT to get cash from the ATM at the grocery store, dollar store, or quick stop and then use the cash to purchase junk food. I am ok with making them jump through hoops to use food stamp money to buy junk food but I do not understand why anyone thinks this will work.

SNAP cards can't be used at a ATM nor to get cash back at the register.

No, SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits cannot be used to withdraw cash from an ATM. SNAP benefits can only be used to purchase eligible food items at authorized retail food stores.

When I'm behind a food stamp user in the check out the most common items in their cart are bags of chips (assorted) and those giant plastic bottles of soda pop. And, yes, the women are really fat.
