I've given this a good deal of thought and I think I finally have the answer. It's not just that "the left can't meme." It's that those is power can't be funny.
Forever, most comedians were liberals, and they were funny as shite... Thing was, culturally liberals were largely seen as outsiders. They were punk, grunge, alternative. Whereas conservatives were normies, staid, country club, etc. Conservatives generally took themselves too seriously and their attempts at humor usually suffered for it.
This is what we're witnessing now. The power structures have flipped...even though they pretend it hasn't. They are now "The Man" and take themselves WAAAAY too seriously. Being on the right is now Punk Rock and going against the grain. Today, speaking truth to power is creating a right leaning meme.
In 30 years we've literally seen Rage Against the Machine openly flack for elites in power running the machine.

Everything in their quasi-religion is fueled by hatred and division. They can't entertain the prospect of humor because their white-hot seething disgust for anyone who doesn't believe like them kicks in.

This I agree with. I have never seen a more humorless lot. Now, their only attempts at being funny are mean spirited. It is a combo of having the power (no longer the outsider punk rockers) and out WOKE-ing each other.
Humor is derived from bad behavior or cutting against the norms of society. Funny characters are those who are not operating within the normal boundaries. This cannot stand in Woke culture.

It's why the handful of standups that ARE still funny are people who, while maybe being old school liberal, refuse to adhere to the woke nonsense and still say what they want. Very few people can be funny when there is a Party member sitting right behind you with a gun pointed at your head.
