quote:no they don't. Up until 1948 the Palestinians were completely indistinct from what became the population of Jordan. The founder of the Palestinian movement considered them to be part of Syria and wanted that to happen. The Palestinian people are the same generically, culturally as the population of Jordan. It's the ruling class of Jordan that is district from the area, having been transplanted there by the British after the Saudis took over Arabia and kicked out the British friends, and they gave Jordan and Iraq to the sons of the leader of the Arab revolt against the Ottomans in WWI. Jordan is the second state of the 2 state solution, and it comprises 80% of Palestine
The Palestinian people have a distinct cultural, linguistic, and historical identity, tied to the region for millennia.
Furthermore, prior to the Zionist movement, Palestine was a nearly depopulated backwater of the Ottoman empire and literally no one gave a shite about it. It was the Ottoman absentee landowners who were more than glad to sell those dumb Jews worthless desert land in a region they couldn't care less about, but when the Jews irrigated that land and made it bloom, the increased economic activity drew in hordes of Arabs from the surrounding areas. The car majority of the Palestinians ancestors don't go back any further on the land than the Zionist Jews

Not sure where this guy is coming from.
The term “Palestine” dates back centuries, used by various empires and in modern times to describe the land between the Mediterranean and Jordan River. The Palestinian people have a distinct cultural, linguistic, and historical identity, tied to the region for millennia.
You don’t have to support terrorism to acknowledge this.
He's coming from the same place that Zuheir Mohsen, military commander for the PLO was coming from in the late 70s when he said the quiet part out loud to a journalist in an interview.
quote:
"The Palestinian people does not exist. The creation of a Palestinian state is only a means for continuing our struggle against the state of Israel for our Arab unity. In reality, today there is no difference between Jordanians, Palestinians, Syrians and Lebanese. Only for political and tactical reasons do we speak today about the existence of a Palestinian people, since Arab national interests demand that we posit the existence of a distinct Palestinian people to oppose Zionism.
"For tactical reasons, Jordan, which is a sovereign state with defined borders, cannot raise claims to Haifa and Jaffa, while as a Palestinian, I can undoubtedly demand Haifa, Jaffa, Beer-Sheva and Jerusalem. However, the moment we reclaim our right to all of Palestine, we will not wait even a minute to unite Palestine and Jordan."
It's not hard. "Palestine" was indeed a term that has been used for centuries. But it was used to describe a region, not a country. Like "the Middle East." It was never used to denote a specific country with borders and a sovereign government until midway through the last century.
And the original "Palestinian" government wasn't even a real government, for decades...look that history up sometime if you want to understand why it's been governed by terrorists for so long.

Arguing that Palestine doesn't exist because no sovereign nation has been called "Palestine" is completely irrelevant to the situation.
Yeah, except that the entire fight is over the sovereignty of "Palestine."
Except for that one little detail, sure.

Would you be OK with the term "displaced Arabs?"

I agree with everything that he said. I just want to know if he has ever taken money from Israel? My guess would be, yes.
Born in 1978 in Ramallah, Yousef is the eldest son of Sheikh Hassan Yousef, a co-founder of Hamas. Initially involved in Palestinian militant activities during the First Intifada, he was arrested by Shin Bet in 1996 at age 17 and imprisoned. While in prison, Yousef became disillusioned with Hamas's brutality (including its tactics involving civilians) and agreed to collaborate with Shin Bet. He was released in 1997 and operated as their informant until 2007, providing intelligence that thwarted numerous suicide bombings and led to the arrests of key Hamas figures. Known as "The Green Prince" (referencing Hamas's green flag and his father's status), his work saved countless lives on both sides, according to his own accounts and Israeli officials.
In 2010, Yousef publicly disclosed his role in his memoir Son of Hamas (co-authored with Ron Brackin), after converting to Christianity, seeking asylum in the U.S., and renouncing Islam and Hamas. He now lives in the U.S. as an outspoken critic of Hamas and advocate for peace. His father and family disowned him, denouncing him as a traitor, though Yousef maintains his actions were motivated by opposition to violence.
Israel did not pay Mosab Hassan Yousef for his work as a Shin Bet informant. According to his former handler (known as "Captain Loai" or Gonen Ben Yitzhak), Yousef's collaboration was driven purely by a desire to save lives and prevent violence, not financial gain. This is corroborated in his memoir Son of Hamas and multiple interviews, where he emphasizes ideological disillusionment with Hamas's tactics as his motivation.
In a 2010 Haaretz interview, Ben Yitzhak stated, "The amazing thing is that none of his actions were done for money. He did things he believed in. He wanted to save lives." According to Al Jazeera, while some Palestinian informants are reportedly paid or incentivized (e.g., via family releases or protections), Yousef's high-value role as the son of a Hamas co-founder made him an exceptional case of voluntary cooperation. His U.S. asylum in 2010 was supported by Ben Yitzhak's testimony, further underscoring the non-financial nature of their partnership.

That can be argued both ways.
From Chat GPT:
No — there was no independent country called Israel before 1948.
Here’s a concise overview:
Before 1948
The area now known as Israel was historically referred to as Palestine, a geographic region rather than a sovereign state.
From 1517 to 1917, it was part of the Ottoman Empire.
After World War I, the League of Nations granted Britain administrative control under the British Mandate for Palestine (1920–1948).
During this period, both Jewish and Arab populations lived there, and tensions grew over competing national aspirations.
1948 and After
On May 14, 1948, the State of Israel was declared by David Ben-Gurion, the head of the Jewish Agency, following the UN Partition Plan of 1947, which proposed separate Jewish and Arab states.
The declaration marked the first time in modern history that an independent, sovereign state named Israel existed.
This was immediately followed by the Arab–Israeli War of 1948, as neighboring Arab countries opposed the new state's creation.
Ancient Context
In ancient times, there were kingdoms called “Israel” and “Judah” (circa 1000–586 BCE) in roughly the same region, mentioned in biblical and archaeological sources.
However, these ancient entities disappeared long before modern nation-states existed.
So, while there was an ancient Kingdom of Israel, the modern State of Israel came into existence only in 1948.

Palestine is NOT mentioned one, single time in the Quran. The Quran mentions Israel 43 times though.

Sure, if you'll refer to the Israelis who were required to leave Gaza in 2005 as part of that attempt to satisfy the constant aggressors as "displaced Jews," or "displaced Israelis."

FaIr enough. I just think it's somewhat of a red herring what the people are called who lived on the land now occupied by the Israelis.

I’m not sure what all this is about but it’s hilarious to me that white liberal women think they’re the moral authority on every issue when they are quite literally the most privileged and propped up demographic in the history of planet earth.

Yes, as a region, not a country.
I do think the whole point is moot, though. We have two separate populations now, and the best way for them to live in peace is to have two separate countries. It doesn't help anyone to continue the status quo.
