They won’t close our borders but they sure will close National Parks!

We’ve been planning a trip to Yellowstone and Grand Teton since early spring, and have had our condo booked for months. We are leaving next Friday, but with the government shutdown, there is a very real possibility that both parks will be closed and gates locked.
What angers me most is that Trump allowed the parks to stay open during the government shutdown that happened under his watch, but this administration and the previous Democrat regimes all shut down the parks to generate maximum pain and outrage.
The government won’t shut the border down to stop illegals from coming in, but they will lock gates to keep hikers out of the parks.
Plus, they won’t prosecute illegals who cut razor wire or open holes in fences to get in, but I can guarantee they’d prosecute me to the fullest extent of the law if I tore down the gate barring me from entering the national park.
I already hated the government, but
now I have a new reason to loathe them.

They’re frikkin useless. If the government shutting down disrupts daily life it has become too large. Burn it all down

Don’t forget, this whole shutdown mess started because of Biden. Stolen elections matter.

I'm in your boat. Had plans for Arches and Canyonland flying out Friday. I just checked, my condo is cancellable up until today and SW monkeyed with my flight times so it is fully refundable as well.
I was really looking forward to the trip, but it's screwed. I can't drop thousands on the trip only to have my main activities closed

It's on purpose. Don't tell everyone in the EPA and Department of Education to frick off in order to keep parks open, and make sure you put yellow tape around the Lincoln Memorial, etc., to create good photo opportunities for how much regular people are "hurt."
At the local level, first responders are almost always the first thing that is mentioned in budget discussions. Then teachers, usually. Notice how it's not "we need to suspend buying DEI materials" or similar.

This is like when Obama started closing roads during a gov shutdown. It’s to cause pain on purpose.

Yep. I can't remember which shutdown it was or who the governor was at the time, but Arizona had plans to staff the Grand Canyon with state park employees and the feds told AZ to frick off, they needed to teach the public a lesson.

You can still hike in. Not much of a consolation, but they can’t surround them with a fence. Get some e-bikes and enjoy the empty parks.

Interesting article that might mean it works out for me in Utah.
National Parks are shutting down. Utah has a creative way of keeping the Mighty 5 open.
The state has set aside $5 million to run the parks — and this time the feds say it won’t be reimbursed.

Cajun, I’ve read yesterday where Arizona and Utah will use state money to keep the parks open, so you might be ok.
Sorry, I wrote this before I saw your post. Good luck!

They were never closing the border with full funding.
