I have seen this type of behavior before in young widows with children. They are scared and fearful of how they will take care of everything when their man is gone. They almost subconsciously latch on to other men.
I know it sounds sick but I have seen it.
And when you factor in her husband was murdered right in front of her eyes, you understand why she wants protection. And who better than the VP who may be the next President?

People are different and grieve differently
Seeing one way as having more or less respect is your opinion. Looking down on someone for their way is a slippery slope.

This is really stupid. OMG! Erika isn't grieving how I want her to!
How dare she wear that outfit while grieving!
How dare she act like the head of an organization and make appearances instead of becoming a hermit while grieving!
People thought my friend wasn't grieving appropriately, too. They weren't there listening to the late night phone calls like I was, so frick everyone who thinks they have the right to criticize Erika for how she publicly grieves when they don't know a damn thing about the situation.
