It looks like that when you live in a red bubble, and it looks the opposite when you live in a blue bubble. The truth is that both sides have civil wars going on with the middle against the extreme (socialists on the democrat side and nationalists on the republican side).

In the context of your argument here, what is a “nationalist” and if you can, point out how nationalists are extreme.

Once we send Rove where we sent Carville the conservatives will rally.

Nationalists have some of the following positions:
Irredentism
Autarky
Racism
Imperialism
They are extreme because they are outside of the mainstream.

Defined this way, can you give examples of federal office candidates or office holders that are “nationalists”?
There are many, many socialists.

Probably not. That is not a winning formula for office. The Republican party was long the only one under fire for extremism. And they purged most of the nutballs from any reputable roles. It is only very recently that the left is under fire for their nutballs. And they can win in left wing districts. I doubt that kind of nationalism would win in many right wing districts.

Socialists are not the extreme left of the democrat coalition. The Left that would be analogous to the Nationalists are the West-hating Soros types who want to swamp us with Muslims. There are overlap between Socialists and that group, but they are not the same.

Being under fire for extremism is not the same as being extremist. I don’t remember any more than a few outlier Republicans that should be described as extremist.

When a party is largely radical/extreme, and has a wildly/insane faction of extremists, that doesn’t mean the party isn’t largely extremist.
In other words, consider how many Democrats and Dem leaders support extreme positions on the border, trannyism, the economy and law enforcement. I don’t think that level of extremism is found on the Right, and in fact it’s not even close.
In the context I use it, “extremism” means a departure from accepted/longstanding norms.

You’re 100% right about this. I always found it funny that the left demonized George W. Bush!
Defining extremism as “a departure from accepted/longstanding norms” is not valid for two reasons, imo.
1. “Accepted” precludes the fact of a large faction trying to change it.
2. It will auto-define progressives as radicals, because they are the ones always trying to change what we are trying to conserve. But sometimes the progressives are right and the longstanding mores are the radical ones - slavery, for example.

Old enough I should've asked for a fully automatic weapon for my 6th bday, before he banned them... while selling Iran 500 TOW missiles that same week, in attempt to appease hezbollah. Glad you asked

Yes, we will swing hard to the left. And they will be able to get away with doing nothing for two years. And then if they get the whole enchilada in 2028, we will really swing left.

It's not 'most'. It only takes a few to stop the conservatives. Illustration:
Say we have 45 Dems and 55 GOP in power. All 45 Dems vote left wing socialism. That means 6 GOP centrists can vote with Dems and block the 49 real conservatives. And a lot of GOP centrists started as conservatives and then found out they could weild more power when they cast the deciding vote.

Well, it looks like we are getting dumber.
That's an important speech he gave, but most people will ignore it. Learning, especially at the earliest years, requires a variety of forms of reinforcement. Digital education via tablets reduces the amount of input required by the child. Humans are tactile creatures and the brain develops a myriad of connections and registers information in different ways. This is why a song may elicit memories that are easily retrievable. Writing with implements like a pencil and paper is important as well. The stakes are higher when the student must form the words/images himself.
Humans need to develop all of their senses and involving the body is equally important to just consuming information.
In any case, the people that need to get the message will largely ignore it in favor of political posturing and pandering to teacher's unions.

Go to any leftwing site anywhere and show me a post where a supposed "moderate" accuses them of living in a "blue bubble".
This site is an "echo chamber" though.

He doesn’t use the word “bubble” but this is from a left wing substack that I read THIS MORNING. It uses the word “deluded” to describe his fellow democrats.
quote:
On the other hand, I read doomer stuff like this from Ruy Teixeira about how Democrats are “deluded” and have fixed nothing, and I think he’s being both analytically wrong and counterproductive in terms of fighting complacency: Many Democrats are giddy about the likely thumping of Trump and the GOP. The 2024 debacle is fast fading from memory. Between the adoption of the “affordability” campaign trope, a ratcheting up of populist rhetoric, and a carefully curated dose of “heterodoxy” in key races, they are convinced they have found the winning formula to take down the unpopular Trump and his party. The necessary reforms and repositioning have taken place; a “wave” election awaits. Problem solved! I beg to differ. Here are three reasons they’re deluding themselves.
That is from Matthew Yglesias’ substack. There is a bitter fight going on in the democratic party between the socialists/greens/DEI types on the one hand and the “abundance democrats” as they refer to themselves. Both Yglesias and Ruy Teixeira are basically accusing the other faction of delusion or in other words, “living in a bubble”.

no problem with autarky if it were viable these days.

It’s easily viable in America. It would be impoverishing, though.

Lots of stupid people on this board think they're being principled when they're really just being useful idiots.
The problem with this is it supports Republicans doing nothing. This mentality is what allows Republicans to say "we're going to get tough on immigration" or "we're going to get a balanced budget" to get elected. Then once they are elected, they don't do a single thing towards what they promised.
Even worse, it encourages Republicans to do nothing, so they can keep using it for the next Election Cycle. I'm convinced, for example, that a lot of Republicans didn't want the abortion issue solved, because they wanted to use it constantly every election.
Republicans for the most part now are nothing more than Democrat Lite. So you're saying we need to be forced into voting for Democrat Leftists or Democrat Lite. That doesn't sound like much of a choice to me.
