re: The sad reality of people leaving NY City

That's a misconception. Its the conservatives that are moving out. That's why Florida has become even more red. I have a business that puts me in people's homes. Many are new arrivals from California and the North East. The ones I have met are more conservative than most on here..Very religious types that homeschool their kids. Affraid that their guns will get confiscated, etc.

Not all. If they feel strongly enough to leave over this, then they may be at least partially based. Believe it or not, there are conservative people in NY. Even in NYC.
The Cali refugees fleeing to Nevada to escape the madness are helping make it more red.
This seems obvious
But fearful chicken littles like OP always think the sky is falling

OK. Let’s compare TX versus NY. I pay about 2% of my home price per year and then federal taxes. Much lower then the NY taxes
Cool non-sequitur, baw.
The TX tax regime has frick all to do with NY.
Again -- no one pays 60% of their income in taxes as that poster claims.
Stop posting easily disprovable shite on this board. Makes you look deranged and retarded.

Of course not
Top marginal rates aren't the same as effective rates
That's not to say that the very wealthy don't have high income taxes in NYC because they certainly do

I will say this. A young couple with one small child moved to my Texas neighborhood from Seattle. They looked like Seattle people. And within a year, the wife was a Trump supporter. The husband didn’t talk much politics although I believe he remained left, he wasn’t hardcore about it.
So there’s hope once people leave their bubbles.

NY is a terrible place to do business, and their taxes are too high. You don't need to lie to further your point.
I don't think he's trying to lie. It's just his tax math isn't mathing

Sure but don't post lies to prove your point. You lose all credibility by lying.
That was my only point.

They will move to conservative states and still vote Democratic.
That has not been the case with Florida. People have been leaving New York and coming to Florida for over 10 years and Florida has gone from a swing state to a solid red state.

Except for the conservatives that bail

All of the jackass Dems that voted for him think they can just say "I voted for you...............I'm not getting taxed right?"
These people are really that dense......................

Don't forget this gem!
quote:
Obamacare asses an additional 0.9 percent Medicare tax on earnings and a 3.8 percent tax on net investment income (NII) for individuals with incomes exceeding $200,000 and couples with incomes exceeding $250,000

people have been moving from NY to FL for the last 70 years, not 10.
FL turning deep red happened after Coronavirus and the Hispanics shifting to Republican. Obama won FL twice Desantis and Rick Scott won their elections in 2018 by less than 1%. then they both won their 2nd elections by 15, 20% margins. they both won Miami Dade. as did Trump in 2024...
Hilary won Miami Dade by 30% in 2016.

The people leaving are likely conservatives

So how much is too much for you?
i know the difference between marginal or effective rates. Are you willing to pay taxes at a 60% rate over the top?

This is not confusing or debatable. The Fact is they have BEEN leaving New York & California in Droves for Years! And will not only continue, especially in New York City, but Increase now!
And it's also no confusing or debatable as to WHY this Has been Occurring and will now Increase!

NY State has up to a 11% income tax. NY City has another almost 4% income tax. Stack that on top of the upper wealthy of roughly 38% federal tax So living in NYC will cost you roughly 60% on your income. You must be a moron to live there.
That is the reason why Dems insisted on increasing the SALT deduction.
No one in their right mind is paying 60% in taxes. With the right deductions, you are lucky if they are paying an effective tax rate of under 40% and if they are really wealthy and steer earnings into business income or other tax shelters, you are lucky if they have an effective tax rate of 10-20%. That is why you have a good accountant to do your taxes.

They have been leaving for decades; will accelerate that momentum now with Comrade what’s his name in charge.
Posted on 11/9/25 at 6:16 am to Crappieman
If it's like California , the conservatives leaving will outnumber the loons.
