China.

Today's Daily Mail has a video of a Russian Tank getting hit and the turret going vertical after the stored ammunitions blew.

Really great photography with a camera that didn't move at all.

In the article is an attribute to the source of the video:
quote:

Amazing video shot by Chinese state TV channel Phoenix shows the sudden blast in eastern Ukraine, which saw the Russian tank wiped out instantaneously.

I wonder how many different Chinese state TV channels have camera crews on the ground, or even are these Chinese military wearing TV station credentials? The camera didn't twitch, could it have been on a tripod?

Just outside of Mariupal is far behind Russian lines at this point, so there are probably a lot of Chinese media in the area. I wonder if that was from a UAV strike or if the Ukrainians have special forces working back there.

Technically speaking that tank was no difference than a well designed "pressure cooker" bomb like those two terrorists/brothers used at the Boston Marathon.

That looked like it was filmed from a dashcam to me.

So who is going to buy all of these minerals & hydrocarbons from Russia? Production in Russia is going to decline so how are they going to develop untapped Ukrainian sources with few buyers?

Europe, China, US and how will their production decline because they aren’t mobilized like Ukraine?

Phoenix is actually a quasi-Hong Kong outfit which has traditionally had more freedom to place reporters in other countries. They're Chinese state-sympathetic, but not necessarily as integrated into the mainland Chinese media system as CGTN, Global Times, or Xinhua.

I highly doubt there are many Chinese state TV reporters anywhere near Ukraine - it's just not their thing.

Why do Russian soldiers continue to climb into those death traps? Surely they know the tank’s reputation by now.

Stubborness, arrogance, and/or a lack of respect for human life.

Ukraine was sitting under a pool of untapped resources that could challenge Russia’s advantage in the European market. However, it couldn’t because the country is a cesspit like North Korea until like 2014 where it started flirting with the idea.

Actually time-wise it is just the opposite.

Exxon, Shell, and OMV had poured 100s of millions of dollars into their partnership with Ukraine to extract oil in the Black Sea and the land shale fields. When Russia took Crimea in 2014 Russia "stole" all these companies' drilling and extraction infrastructure. Since that time Ukraine has had a hard time finding partners to help extract their underground treasure.

Russia not only took an incredible amount of value from Ukraine in 2014 but they also handcuffed them from being able to exploit their wealth.

Yeah, I think the issue with the Russian tanks is the auto loading system. On paper, it looks great. You no longer need a 4th crew member for loading. However, those shells then have to be stored on an auto loading rack in the turret and the armor is weak above the turret. The Ukraine armed forces know this so they hit them from the top with NLAWS, Javelins, Drones carrying munitions, and precision Artillery. We just gave them 90 M777 artillery pieces and when that 155mm HE shell smashed into the turret, it's like hitting a powder keg because the ammo is right there under it. The shear force from the shell alone would be devastating. That's why you are seeing a lot of turrets flying up or being severed from the tank.

The Ukrainians call those lollypops.

I've been watching products of the Kings and Generals YouTube channel for a couple of years now. They cover wars back to the beginnings of history, but not often current stuff. But here is their analysis of the first five weeks of the war.

Very good rundown of the war so far.

It's wild how different reports are out there. The OT thread has me thinking Russia is about to collapse. Larry Johnson, who used to work at CIA, says the opposite.

This guy Dreizin is borderline pro-Russia, but he admits the bridge situation was a mess and Russia is struggling. The military analysis starts around 18:00.

Yea. From what I gather they are trading blows fairly evenly considering it all. From a manpower perspective, it’s about even / Ukraines favor. However, Russia has a clear advantage in tactical missile strikes.

There is a lot both sides are learning I am sure. Probably the 1st time Russia has had to go up against modern Western ground weaponry.

Of course the numbers are hard to confirm as no one really seems to know.

The rebels are attacking, New York, today.

(It’s a town of 9,000 people, in the Donetsk oblast.)

I think the Russians are doing fine for themselves now.

They had allegedly bribed two Ukrainian generals before the war, the men Zelensky called traitors, to stand down the UA.

But the Ukrainians didn’t stand down, and so the Russians faced very real and unexpected resistance.

But the Russians changed strategies, and now they’re fighting the way they’ve trained to fight. They have a massive advantage in firepower, and they’re hammering the Ukrainian positions with artillery.

You can see the results in the KIA photos, and you can see them in western media reports. The Ukrainian soldiers continually complain about the lack of artillery support.

For every 200 shells they fire, we fire three.

The Russians don’t appear to be on any kind of deadline either. They’re going slowly and they’re taking very few risks.

It's like we said all along, without NATO troops Ukraine has no shot long term. Just destroying Ukrainian cities and leading people to the slaughter. They had no chance without us sending troops on the ground and air control assistance. We led them to the slaughter to inconvenience Russia.
