Higher than what? When?

I just posted actual hard evidence that says that groceries have seldom been cheaper than they are now and gas is up, but has been higher for a sustained period twice in the 2000s.

I didn't post anything about utilities, but I can look that up too if you like.

If you're only talking about within the past year or something, well fricking boo-hoo. Prices cycle. A five year window is a short one when considering these things.

Whining about that is like crying because every day isn't better than the one before. Life doesn't work that way. Economic cycles don't work that way. They go up and they go down.

Those are fricking luxuries. You're bent out of shape because non-essential luxuries cost more (according to you...I'd have to fact check that before I conceded it since you are still claiming groceries are higher when I have proven to you that they are not, unless you're talking about a silly-short time frame for comparison)?

I know they would agree. But not because it's true. Because they keep being fed this victim narrative. The facts are that Americans STILL, after all of this "affordability crisis," STILL have more disposable income than ever before.

Since 1970 (always) adjusted for inflation, Americans have 181% more disposable income, which is up 1% since last year.

What that means—since you don't seem to be able to figure it out—is that yeah, in the very short term, gas is up (but not at an all time high in your lifetime), rent is up, real home prices are up the past five years, but that's because they were low as hell for five years compared to just about any other time in the past 55 years, and groceries are slightly cheaper than just about any time in the past 50 years or so.

But you also have more money than you did 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50 years ago to buy stuff. By a lot.

I'm a conservative, so under all but abnormal circumstances I'm not the least bit interested in government doing anything but getting the hell out of the way when it comes to the economy. I've always been against the tariffs because they are the opposite of getting the hell out of the way, but if your beef is Trump, you knew he was going to meddle in the economy when you voted for him.

And there's a reason that conservatives are against government meddling in the economy. Because history shows the economy works (much) better without the meddling.

Sounds like you might only think you're a populist. You might actually be a conservative.

If you can pull yourself up to the point of wanting to elect someone to protect your rights and property while staying out of everything else in your life instead of electing someone to "fix things" for you or rig the system in your favor, welcome aboard. The few of us left will be glad to have you.
