Texas halting approval of Data Centers until audits are completed!

As a data center engineer, this is a good move. Too many ignorant localities are approving data centers without any understanding of what is coming. The towns/cities need to be forcing the data center companies to pony up for the extra infrastructure required to support the data centers.

The Chinese are running the same playbook the Russians ran against us. The Russians funded leftwing organizations to oppose US oil and gas drilling because it threatened their oil and gas markets. Now the Chinese are funding the left and gullible “Republicans” to oppose data centers for the same reasons.
The Chinese aren’t going to stop building data centers but they certainly want us to stop building the infrastructure.

How is the state going to provide enough water without draining aquifers depleting water needed for homes, farming, etc?
How many more surcharges can Entergy add to our electric bills, on top of the already hurricane charges.

Out in West Texas, Microsoft partnered with Chevron to provide natural gas and Texas Pacific Land Trust to provide brackish (and maybe recycled) water to support their data center out there.
That's how these things should be run. Is the Haynesville region not able to supply enough natural gas and produced water for the Meta data center in Richland Parish?

Georgia Power and the Georgia legislature seem to be setting a good path forward with bonding requirements and impact studies. Local municipalities need to be sure their ordinances address the main points.

Yep, my community has 3 huge ones with more to come. The energy they used has trickled down to us. Water we haven’t noticed yet any hike.

Aware, but they’ve got pipelines all the way down to Calcasieu/Cameron.
Maybe natural gas isn’t the answer for the Meta site, but like you said, these things need to be able to operate without straining the power grid or the freshwater resources.

Richland data is a closed loop system. They will lose some to evaporation but it won’t use the absurd amounts of water that some of the older data centers use. At one point it had been discussed that they would run a water pipeline from the Mississippi River to the site
For initially filling the ponds and reservoirs on the site. Not sure if that’s still a possibility but
It would make the most sense IMO. Roughly 50 miles from the data center to the river.

I guess you’ve never heard of a closed loop water system?
I agree that they should be responsible for their electricity usage without passing it on to the public but your water argument is ignorant at best.

What makes you so certain the state will be "providing water" to them? What is your definition of "providing water"? If a data center takes river water onto its facility for a once-through cooling system, then puts it back in the river, is that considered "providing water" to you? Or do you think they will simply take and consume millions of gallons per day, and we never see it again?

Some people want to allow multi national conglomerates to run roughshod over their communities with impunity. That’s downright stupid. How much data do “they” need? I’m not sure I approve of this “progress”
