When do people get refunds for not taking out loans because they sacrificed by saving money to go to college?

Starting Monday, hundreds of thousands of federal student loan borrowers received emails from their servicers with the subject line "Your student loans have been forgiven."

The notices came as part of the Biden administration's previously announced efforts to cancel debt for 804,000 borrowers who qualify for relief under their repayment plans but haven't yet received it because of what officials have called administrative failures.

The emails started going out on Monday, according to a copy of the confirmation notices to borrowers that ABC News exclusively obtained.

Here is my big question on any forgiven student loans.

The balance on any forgiven loans is considered to be taxable income.. Will this apply to forgiven student loans?

I actually 100% expect them to do this "to make it fair". In reality, theu will find any reason to print a few more trillion to further destroy the middle class.

quote:

However, borrowers working toward loan forgiveness have been exempt from taxes thanks to the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021. This measure made forgiven student loans exempt from federal income taxes, but it only applies to loans that are discharged between January 1, 2021, and December 31, 20225.

The American Rescue Plan applies to all student loan forgiveness programs but only affects federal income taxes. Although some states adopted similar measures for state income taxes, not all followed suit.

As of 2023, Indiana, North Carolina, and Mississippi have stated that the balance of forgiven student loans will be taxed as income. Taxpayers in Arkansas, California, and Wisconsin could face the same fate — the states are currently reviewing their tax laws and have yet to make a determination (as of June 2023).

This is a different policy with statutory forgiveness.

Biden just used executive action to fix administrative failures.

Completely different scenarios.
