All of the money we've spent in Ukraine would've more than set this country up for massive success in this regard. Forgivable loans to bring back manufacturing would've been so successful that no one would've blinked an eye at college loan forgiveness.

This assumes there are 10M people who would show up to work.

We should make The Ukrainian pay us back. With interest

We need reciprocal tariffs.
Look at the volume of trade and the imbalance. If you’re exporting more to a country than you’re importing from it, a tariff penalizes you if they reciprocate.

Check out the mass layoff statistics related to trade. You’ll be shocked.

How would creating jobs and cutting taxes help fight white supremacy? A lot of the tariffs would be against POC and I'm sure we could dig up a POC-owned business that is negatively impacted by not being able to import cheap Chinese slave labor goods and materials.
Private equity firms stacked. Middle class Americans fuuuckked.

I reject your reality and substitute my own!
Orange Man is for tariffs. Orange Man is Nazi. Therefore, tariffs are Nazi tactics! And if you support Orange Man and tariffs, you are a super duper double Nazi!

When you go protectionist, other countries do too. Exports have a multiplicative effect on dollars brought in through sales. We want them to buy our finished goods….badly. Encouraging other countries to put tariffs on our goods is bad. I’ll put one exception to that, and it’s China. We do need to rein in our dependence on their finished goods. Raw materials….no tariffs on imports….ever IMO. We have far too much dependence on finished goods coming from there.
Are you saying that other countries aren’t already manipulating the playing field to their advantage (especially China)? The US is the country not flexing enough because politicians are paid off in government.

Tariffs on all foreign imports also translate to tax cuts for Americans.
So raising taxes (tariffs) are going to lower taxes? Interesting. Let’s see the math on that.

U.S. free trade policies have resulted in decades of job cuts, stagnant wages, and a collapse of heartland American communities.
So, Biden’s centrally planned green economy is a disaster. BUT, a protectionist centrally managed economy will be a huge hit?
Poli Board never disappoints.

While true, have you considered how much items would cost if everything was produced in the United States even at minimum wages and not 10-15 dollars a hour people are clamoring for. Also, do we have enough of a skilled workforce to do all the jobs?

So we're in a "recessionary environment" with rampant inflation and your solution is to raise the cost of imported goods? The Smoot-Hawley Tarriff Act says hello... those who forget history are doomed to repeat it.

Trump was right again! And again and again and again.

Especially with the currently strong dollar adding buying power for imported goods. And any reciprocal tariffs levied by other countries would further hamstring our exports.

So their estimates (go read the actual report) would cause a 2 trillion dollar jump in GDP off a 15% tariff across the board.
So our exports are going to miraculously jump from 3.7 trillion to 6.4 trillion.
At that rate, we’ll wipe out the trade deficit and become a net exporter of savings to the rest of the world.

It makes labor union's support of Democrats all the more puzzling.
Democrats love piling regulations on America's manufacturers which makes producing here so expensive we've lost millions of jobs over the years. As if that isn't enough Biden will likely remove or reduce tariffs on Chinese goods implemented by Trump.
What is it going to take for labor unions to realize Democrats couldn't care less about them or their jobs?

It would lead to retaliatory tariffs, which means the market for US goods would shrink, which means we'd get into a rather substantial recession, maybe depression, until we right-size our economy.
And since there would be a smaller market for US goods, unemployment would be higher.
And since labor unions inflate the price of labor (and would since they would have a TON more power all of a sudden), it would mean large inflation on goods we produce domestically.
We blew our chance at a tariff based economy when grand Democrat Woodrow Wilson gave us the income tax. Can't put the toothpaste back in the tube.

And products for Americans more expensive

Do we not remember what happened during the Great Depression era?
This “lofty notion” only works until other nations predictably raise their tariffs on our goods.
This is stupid. Focus on core principles such as stop subsidizing bad economic decisions with money we don’t have, and funding that new give away by printing more money.
