Did you find one with images of people wearing them below their noses, under their chin, etc because when this was in effect last time, a huge portion of masks were being worn like that.
Meaning, at no point during any of the mask mandates were masks being worn to any standard. Essentially, even when they were mandated, the lack of wearing them properly was virtually like not wearing them at all, so going BACK to that seems fricking absurd.
Oh I totally agree with you

If masks work, why do I need a vaccine, and if vaccines work, why do I need a mask? Anyone else curious about this?
Finally. After seeing 50 threads like this I was like ... it's just not enough!
Thank you

My question then still remains
Why wear one if it doesn't work? So if it works a little bit it's ok?
Yes. They help. A seatbelt isn't going to save my life 100% of the time, but I still wear one.

I bet if they just shut down everything and make us all stay home for a month or two, this'll all go away.
Oh wait.

So you will wear a mask until you are no longer breathing?
Got it.

This is why I have no interest in masks again.
It's also why I think, anecdotally speaking that is, places that had strict mask mandates and those with lax ones were virtually identical in case numbers. They only had so-so efficiency and they were hardly ever worn correctly, so despite inconveniencing people and especially children, they had no real impact at all.
If there were hard numbers which showed some huge differences between states that kept mask mandates in place and those that did not, then we could talk.

What does "Fitted Filtration Efficacy," and specifically those percentages, mean with regard to this covid virus?
Sorry, should have linked where I got it from. https://www.epa.gov/sciencematters/epa-researchers-test-effectiveness-face-masks-disinfection-methods-against-covid-19
quote:
Researchers tested how well different masks and modifications filter out airborne salt particles, which are the same size as the smallest SARS-CoV-2 particles, but are not harmful. Members of the research team wore the face coverings to do the testing themselves.
While N95 respirator type masks are the most effective at filtering viral particles, the CDC recommends reserving these masks for healthcare workers. The table below compares the fitted filtration efficiency (FFE)—how well a material filters out particles—for common types of masks recommended for the public.

I can quite easily find very clear easy to understand scientific studies on the life saving efficacy of seat belts.

C'mon...that's a terrible analogy. We have decades worth of research that show us that seatbelts save lives and can show side by side results of not wearing them. We have nothing like this in regards to masks, and especially the kinds of masks most people are half arse wearing.
When it comes to masks, we're basically just assuming that they do "something" and "something" is better than nothing. Plus, seeing people wear masks makes others "feel" safer, so there's also that.

I only used that comparison to make the point that something is better than nothing since the OP seems to act like its all or nothing.

It seems like those sorts of efficacy numbers would be more clearly evident in real world infection data.

Well like another poster brought up, theses studies don't account for people wearing them under their chin

Nor touching a door knob then touching the mask all day long.
Masks are pretty stupid in the manner they are used.

Even if a mask was 40-50% effective, what happens to that efficacy when you are touching your face 1000X more throughout the course of a day. Fauci said this in the very beginning, remember?

Neither work 100%.
What % do the masks work at?
And don't show me N95 masks being used a single instance by a medical professional who knows how to don/wear it.
I want to see the homemade mask that grandma made that's stored in a purse, only washed once a month, is constantly readjusted, and doesn't seal properly.

98% of scientists agree...
...that they're not commenting on that shite.

My unsolicited thought on this.
Since the air you exhale contains virus, and a mask restricts air flow, at most, it keeps the viral particles in a closer proximity to the exhaler, initially. Particularly the virus contained in droplets. That’s about it. Unless it’s N95 or whatever.
I’d suggest theres minimal value in masks.
