I totally understand his angle about us carrying them, and making them pay up.
But do we really want to risk NATO collapsing? I don't think so. Some of these little hoes will run to Russia so fast it'll make your head spin.

Increased military expenditures by european economies.
He knows that u.s. companies have a damn-near monopoly on high-quality military equipment. So if he can get european military expenditures to increase by 500 billion a year, that probably means at least 250 billion more in exports for u.s. military contractors. It’s unquestionably a risk, but it all comes back to jobs.

Trump is telling Europe that if you want to run with the big dogs, you've got to learn to pee in the tall grass.

Clearly, by exhorting NATO members to increase their defense spending in an alliance that is explicity meant to counter Russian military might.

Some of those “little hoes” broke up with Russia 30 years ago..
Czech, Hungary, Poland, Austria, Slovakia
I don’t see them going back to Russia any time soon at all.
I’d prefer trump just broker a deal with countries that pay there fair share and also want to be open for business in a fair/reciprocal manor.

Why is he going in dry on everybody?
I think he is making it known that all of the American people aren’t as ignorant, corrupt, Eurocentric, gullible, or careless with their money as our suckass leadership since Reagan has led them to believe, and the bullshite is going to stop, at least while he’s in charge.
quote:
What does he want to get out of it?
A better deal for the American people! We carry Europe through trade imbalances and allow them to hose us through tariffs that greatly benefit them.
quote:
Will it work?
To some extent, yes. You can bet that Europe will be counting the days until his second term is over, in hopes that we go back to leadership that doesn’t mind helping them pack our fudge.
quote:
What if it doesn't?
If it doesn’t, maybe we will stop living under the illusion that many of these countries have a special relationship with us, that they appreciate what the US does for their world, and they are allies, rather than the fair weather friends they are, who only want us around when we are saving their asses, or making them rich.

Simple, he's tired of America carrying everyone on its back.

Man occassionally you can be halfway objective and then you turn around and give it right back with inane bs like this.

If I were a German citizen and found out we weren't paying our share to NATO, if be completely pissed off. They have zero military and are beyond vulnerable without the US there.

Germany has a small but very professional military. Probably could be considered large by European standards.

When I lived in New Mexico, they had a squadron of Tornado jets they built facilities for at Holloman. Those things were loud as hell. To hear some of the Stealth pilots talk, they had some damn skilled people.

His overall theme seems fine to me.
But about 1 out of 5 "OMG" moves by Trump seem to bear any fruit. The Sun interview is pathetic unless the goal is to make May more popular by trashing her.

Eastern and Central Europe will be ready and willing to step up their game if we ask. They know what the Russians are all about.
For awhile, Western Europe has relaxed, knowing the former Warsaw Pact countries would be the buffer zone for the West (as they had been for the Russians before). They know the Russians would be in a dogfight in Poland and the Czech Republic (at least), and the US would be ready to respond by the time those countries fell. So they coasted, knowing they were "safe".
But now Trump is calling them out on it. If they want to remain on the A list, they're going to have to start bringing more to the table. Otherwise, Poland might take their spot.

I think the President's endgame is pretty clear: he's letting Europe know the rules have changed, at least during his administration. They can't help pay for their own defense, but can make multi-billion dollar deals that enrich our mutual enemy?!

We are about to have European colonies. It’s the new colonialism.

Breaking down the old order cabals that control everything in Europe. In Europe politics is big business.
