While National Security Adviser John Bolton, according to a source, thought Trump’s remarks were ill-advised, he believed that walking them back would only add fuel to the outrage pyre and make the president look weak.

But Chief of Staff John Kelly was irate. According to a source, he told Trump it would make things worse for him with Robert Mueller. He also exerted pressure to try to get the president to walk back his remarks. According to three sources familiar with the situation, Kelly called around to Republicans on Capitol Hill and gave them the go-ahead to speak out against Trump. (The White House did not respond to a request for comment.)

If Kelly did this, fire him. It's one thing to chew out Trump in private, it's another to go around gossiping to Capitol Hill.

VanityFair

(You have to consider the source, but I wouldn't be surprised if it happened).

And it’s another thing for a sitting POTUS to flatter a thuggish autocrat while denigrating his own government.

Maybe, maybe not.

But I think one thing is almost guaranteed. By this time next week, this is not going to be a story that resonates.

Until there are actual national security consequences, I could give a crap what Trump says or Tweets. The consequences that I have witnessed have been a small business tax cut, a personal tax cut, a growing economy, possible peace with NoKo, possible better relations with Russia, and possible elimination of Iran as a threat.

I don’t blame Kelly if this is true.

It’s not like kelly called up the majority of GOP that lashed out at trump. There were plenty that didn’t need someone to tell them to go public with their comments.

Vanity fair... but Kelly obviously had the President say like all the rest have that he mispoke with one word.

It makes sense as Trump was saying going over that he knows the russians did it but they will never fess up.

I think Kelly did have him walk back but I don't think he called capitol hill for anything but to tell them POTUS was walking back. Also Kelly is retiring from his position soon and never intended to go longer from the start.

Have you been paying attention to that govt you're talking about?

It deserves some denigration if you ask me.

frick the United States government that involves itself in swamp politics, covers up the deaths of its own diplomats, covers for politicians that sell the US for personal gain and fabricates lies to oust those that would seek to expose them.

..and frick people like you for being too stupid to realize how stupid you are.

Im just throwing out ideas but maybe Kelly doesnt like his President betraying the country by publicly siding with a commie piece of shite over his own IC. Like most red blooded americans.

Just spitballing here.

Nope.

There is such a thing as constructive criticism and Trump sorely needed that after yesterday's disaster.

Nobody bats a thousand, not even Donald Trump and it's up to his friends and allies to make it forcefully known when he makes a mistake that he needs to clean up.

Kelly was doing his job as well as he is doing.
