So, if you are against this student loan forgiveness thing, will you still take it?

One of my boys has about $8K in loans, and I am a co-signer.

I hate the program, but $8K is $8K.

What y’all thinking?

ETA: Looks like he won’t qualify anyway. He was a dependent at the time, and it may be that my income will negate the qualification. In any case, the thread was more about whether you accept a benefit that you were against being one in the first place.

It won't get to that point. He can't legally forgive it.

If you're eligible for it then take it.

You are going to pay for it so you might as well get the money from them to hand back to them.

You're welcome freeloader. Now I have paid my kids and will pay your kids too...indirectly.
I didn't even get the benefit of the extra sex.

I would. It's my money paying for it ultimately.

I have roughly 5,600 left.

I won’t be a parasite.

Not taking it

I would send them a letter stating I do not want the money, that I’m not a leach , and that they should be ashamed of themselves for pushing this through.

Is loan forgiveness taxable income?

I think that since gender is now fluid that my mortgage now identifies as a student loan. Therefore, I'll gladly be participating.

That's dumb on your part. If someone is going to gift you something, use it to your advantage.

The Lottery is basically a dumb tax/poor tax and yet I'll occasionally play. If I win that, I'm gladly taking EVERYONE's money.

Can’t answer your question, I’ve got a 53 year track record of paying my debt off like a responsible citizen, and am debt free.

I believe anyone who takes the $10k should have to serve the military for 4 years at the very least.

Of course I would take it, I pay income taxes, why should a person not get the benefits of those taxes.

If it actually happens then everyone should take it. You will be paying for others anyway

I understand principle as well as the next guy, but the tax payers (me and you) are still screwed for 300 Billion dollars whether you take that 8,000 or not.

They way I look at it, the government is buying me $10,000 worth of guns and ammo that I desperately need. Instead of paying my loan with that money, I'll be putting it towards the 2nd Ammendment.
