The team competition just wasn’t working for her. So, she quit. Media can spin away as they will, but fact is she quit. It’s not heroic in any manner.

Did you read her quotes? She essentially said “screw my team, I’m in it for me”. What spin would come out at this point that would change what she’s already said?

Is there anything that you don’t view as political?

She took the spot from a girl who would have appreciated and remembered the opportunity for the rest of her life.
What an uppity bitch Simone Biles is

Is this some kind of weird gotcha?
quote:
Prominent politicians like Ayanna Pressley and Cori Bush have made public statements applauding her. The White House Press Secretary expressed “gratitude and support.” Deadspin gushed over “the most impressive move of her career.”

But why? Yes she struggled but did she remove herself like a pitcher with a sore shoulder or who doesn’t have his best stuff early enough to give his team a chance? The greats would never pull themselves but if that’s why, I understand. I wonder about her competitive fire or how she reacts when things don’t go her way. That’s what kids need to learn. In life everything doesn’t go your way all the time. Sometimes you have to fight through adversity. Not give up.

Too early. Give the young lady some space. Why is everyone in such a rush to cast a verdict?
Because that spot would have meant EVERYTHING to the girl who was next in line.
Selfish Simone took this girls dream - a once in a lifetime opportunity - and just publicly flushed it down the toilet without even feeling an iota of regret or guilt.
More than enough for me to decide she’s a terrible person and to dislike her fervently.

Would one of the alternates fill in for Biles? That's what they are there for...right?

She's a self absorbed piece of shite. Joining the Olympics but getting mad at the idea of representing something other than herself.

There’s a group you can thank for the politicalization of everything under the damn sun, but the OP ain’t part of the problem.

She is an Olympian and the most accomplished American gymnast. She has accomplished more than anyone on this board will in their lifetime. I’m sure she’ll be fine.

And she'll always be remembered for quitting

I have no problem with Biles quitting. She has her reasons, and we probably don't know what they are. Judgement free.
But those applauding her for quitting... good grief. Those are the ones that need an arse kicking.
I agree with this. IMHO, she quit in order to protect her brand from any damage. I don't condemn her. I may criticize and disagree with her, but, that's different.
Those who choose to applaud her and pretend that she did something heroic or mature or otherwise commendable - THOSE people are the problem.

I imagine this POV will not be popular.
Sad part is, this POV SHOULD be overwhelmingly popular; I would imagine in the heartland it is popular. REAL Americans don't celebrate sniveling quitters.

No, that’s what you will remember her for.

She quit just like the college players who opt out quit.
Such a stupid analogy. Opting out of a meaningless Independence Bowl to avoid injury and possibly jeopardizing generational wealth is totally different than quitting during the olympics. The latter is more akin to quitting right before the CFP or the Super Bowl.
