Give the young lady some space. Why is everyone in such a rush to cast a verdict?

Nah, she doesn't deserve any space for making such a statement about a team sport.

It's probably that dumbass mask she is wearing that is causing her the stress.

We will know when it comes to the individual events. If she excels there, then she deserves criticism.

If she struggles and / or pulls out of the individuals, then something was wrong. Maybe time had just caught up to her as she is pretty old for an Olympic gymnast.

It's as if America doesn't want to be the best in anything.
Sounds like something lifetime government worker Biden would say.

And Biles isn't the first. Naomi Osaka was praised and celebrated for quitting Wimbledon.
Osaka is completely different. Unless Biles is suffering from depression and panic attacks, she is not at all like Osaka.

Osaka was basically traumatized by Serena Williams at the US Open.

I agree, she quit.

But let's think about this for a sec.

What if she had torn an ACL, broken a bone, had any number of other physical ailments? Would everyone be as harsh on her?

Mental illness is real guys. It's real, and can be just as damaging and debilitating as those physical illness. But you can't see it like you can a broken bone, or a torn ACL (in a MRI).

That doesn't make it less serious.

Now, I'm not giving her a complete pass. It certainly looks she just couldn't cut the mustard and wimped out.

But maybe, just maybe she's really suffering from mental illness.

I just wish she would have quit before the Olympics started so someone else could have the spot.

Its not mental illness. Listen to her interviews. She just wasn't feeling it. Hell, she said she thought it was because there was no crowd.

Mental break =/= mental illness.

What a narcissist.

Maybe try representing America, you know, the reason you're there in the first place.

*see Patrick Reeds comments:

quote:

“I was definitely playing no matter what. When I start something, I finish it,” Reed said. “It wouldn’t have mattered if I could have gotten out last night, it wouldn’t have mattered to me. I have an obligation to be here to play, and once I start an event, I’m definitely going to finish the event.”

Also Patrick Reed:

quote:

“Anytime I can represent my country and go play for my country, I’m going to do it no matter what, no matter where it is, no matter what time zone or how I have to get there or anything,” Reed said. “When they gave me the name Captain America — the fans did — it feels like an obligation and a duty of mine to go out and play for our country whenever I can and whenever I get the call.

Simone Biles needs to be more like Pat Reed.

to me it's the same as football players 'opting out' of their bowl games....a lot of them get praised for it too...but to me it's quitting on your team.....

Millions of people with depression and panic attacks go to work every day. It celebrate those that succeed anyway. THOSE are the people that we should praise. Not the ones that quit (they need help, not praise).

The guy that's has depression, wakes up and goes to his job at Dillard is a f*cking hero. The one that stays in bed all day... is not.

No amount of your gaslighting is going to change that.

IOW. She quit.

In Atlanta the delicate little gymnast Kerri Strug had the injured ankle and should've removed herself from the competition, but went through with the vault and nailed it, helping her team win the Gold.

As soon as she hit and held the landing just long enough, she collapsed in pain with Karolyi rushing over to her to catch her from falling.

She got a few measured accolades from the press, but nothing like this.

That was 1996. But we've since been in the throes of a hysterical pander fest that apparently we have to keep going.

Nah, her country and her team quit on her when they didn't stand up to the special rules for a single person.
The USA sucks

Biles took a spot on the team. That means another gymnast who has worked hard for years didn't make it. Then she quit.

She says herself she's just there for herself.

Doesn't care about her team.

She's worse than a quitter.
