Seems like a lot of flip flopping.

I'm not talking about how we handled the current situation. It's clearly a shite show.

Should we have maintained a military presence in Afghanistan?

The military should have been the last to leave, out of Bagram.

That isn’t the question.

The question is “Should we have done so before giving anyone who wanted out the opportunity?”

We should've pulled out, but obviously with a much better plan. The taliban taking over was probably inevitable, but it's really not our job to continue spending trillions on occupying a useless territory.

Should have pulled them out like we had at least a small amount of dignity and common sense. We showed neither.

No. We have enough assets in the region. Use forward air bases as a means to contain stupidity.

No, but we should have kept them there until we got all of the other Americans (state department personnel, US citizens who were there who wanted to leave, etc.), and the Afghans who helped us and wanted to leave, out.

the way sane normal thinking people pull out of a country is first you warn all us citizens to leave the country

then you start evacuating all civilian contractors

next you start evacuating all afghans who helped us that would face reprisals

then you destroy all hardware and equipt being left behind

then and only then after all that has happened, do you evacuate all remaining troops under the cover of dark so no one is left by the time the sun rises

biden just said pull the troops out now and dont bother with protecting civilians lives and all that other BS

No. We should never have had a presence there to begin with, outside of bombing them back to the 12th century where they belong.

When they frick up, you go in and drop shite on them and then you go back to an airbase and wait.

There was never any need to do nation building in my opinion. frick all that. Bombs are expensive as hell but still a lot cheaper than trillions of dollars.

The rush of civilians to the airport yesterday kinda showed that the average person on the ground around Kabul did not expect the city to fall so quickly. Unless you expect the military to go round up Americans in Kabul and forcefully remove them, not sure what they could have done there exactly.

Think of it as a hurricane evacuation. Those who end up on their roofs had a chance to get out sooner, but waited until it was too late.
