The rush of civilians to the airport yesterday kinda showed that the average person on the ground around Kabul did not expect the city to fall so quickly. Unless you expect the military to go round up Americans in Kabul and forcefully remove them, not sure what they could have done there exactly.

Think of it as a hurricane evacuation. Those who end up on their roofs had a chance to get out sooner, but waited until it was too late.

Accept everyone in the government knew the hurricane was coming a year+ plus in advance you idiot.

NO we shouldn't have........we carpet bomb there goat fricking asses if needed

But our dumb asses set up the success/failure of the Afghan government by requiring our help through air support....and im not talking about air support when in combat....im talking just everyday support to re-stock/supply the necessities needed to maintain an operable afghan military in these remote places.

Our dumb asses set up bases in remote areas that can only be supplied and supported through air support.........guess what Biden pulled from Afghanistan first......mother fricking air support.

Should we have maintained a military presence in Afghanistan

Once the Taliban started to taking back provinces in the outskirts it was entirely obvious that the country was on a clock, the taliban started breaking their agreements.. That complete evactuation of all non military personnel and afgan refugees should have taken place at that moment. Once those two things happened we should have responded to the taliban's aggression in the outer provinces by a huge aerial attack. They broke their agreements by taking those provinces, we should have hit back to see if they were going to start upholding their end of the bargain or not. Instead they broke their bargain and we never did a damn thing about it. if the Taliban wanted a war, we should have at least stayed to provide air support and intel, instead we left Afgan army on their own, they folded like a house of cards, Taliban were literally never tested on if they would stop their attacks if the US bombed them. That is a complete and utter failure.

We definitely shouldnt have stayed, but we should have helped the afgan army early in this civil war by providing air support.

They worst part in all of this is that the US performed a withdrawal without ANY plans to withdrawal US civilians which report to be in the 10s of thousands. They performed a withdrawal from literally the worst strategic airport in the country, as it is in a bowl and is so large it is very hard to secure. We had to bring in over double the amount of military that was in the country just to try and get them out. They size of this epic mess-up is honestly not being reported like it should. And literally everyone is reporting that it is an epic cluster f.

Shouldn't have allowed them to steal the election. Circumstances there would be a lot different, if the actual president were in office.

Do you think that they knew this would happen? Someone had to have known right? I'm all for blaming the people responsible but this "malicious compliance" thing to make your superiors look bad is also a problem in my mind. People playing politics can get people killed. Doing the right thing starts with yourself, whether that be through action or voicing appropriate concerns or whatever.

We should have left in the winter or the fall when the Taliban was busy with their crops.

We should have continued to support the Afghan military with air support.

We should not have left people who assisted us to the mercy of the Taliban.

It is clear that we knew this would happen. That is not in dispute.

We should have removed all personnel amd equipment before even announcing we were leaving. Very easy when you still have control of the air fields. Get everyone out except a very small number of troops, then announce we are leaving and be out within a few days. Trump amd Biden were both wrong by given a date. Don't ever give your enemy a date you are doing anything.

Only long enough to make sure that our people were able to safely exit the area. Once all civilian personnel were removed from harms way, then pull up stakes.

No we shouldn't have kept them there. We should have kept Bagram open while the embassy folks got rid of all the sensitive materials. Had air patrols flying to at least slow the Taliban down a little bit. Then once the embassy is able to be shut down, get everyone to Bagram to be flown out. The last ones on a plane should have a rifle in there hands leaving under cover of a C130 gunship circling overhead.

But instead these idiots leave the desk jockeys behind with virtually no security and let the fricking airport get cut off. It's a joke.

State threw these people to the wolves to make sure their own asses got out first.

The shelter in place came after the Taliban were already there.
