If Sheriffs are smart, if the curve continues downward, they should publically state they will not enforce any more state lockdown measures post may 1st.

That businesses in their area are free to open

They should take a stand against these crazy governors

Are you serious? JBE is owned lock, stock, and barrel by the Louisiana Sheriffs' Association.

JBE's brother is Sheriff on Tangipahoa Parish. The Sheriff's are in the bag for JBE.

Why? They are getting paid to do less work.

It really doesn't seem like much of a lockdown. Forced unemployment yet cars all over the roads and busy stores.

They don’t have to make a grand, public movement to do that. It only stirs shite up. Just tell your deputies to let it go.

Certain parishes should definitely reopen May 1st. If I’m in Tensas Parish, Cameron, Caldwell, Sabine etc. I’m reopening May 1 regardless of what the Governor orders. If half the parishes reopen then at least some people can start feeling normal again. It might even help some of the more rural areas gain some economic development.

A one size fits all approach is not the way to handle this. I don’t care how cumbersome it is to make decisions on a Parish by Parish basis. The more rural areas of the state are the ones getting hammered the most in this. They were already barely getting by. Letting them reopen if they have very few if any new cases in the last two weeks could be the best thing economically for the rural areas.

So state trumps federal but I assume state also trumps local? Yes I should know this.

Agree, but

The risk that was decided that we couldn't take was to let hospitals get overrun and people dying on the sidewalks not being able to get care. That is no longer a risk, hospitals are empty. Time to get back to normal.

WHAT?

The Sheriffs are loving this control, they will not give that up until ordered to.

Absolutely smacks of stereotypical good ol’ boy political boss cronyism.

And we not only tolerate it, we endorse it. It’s why Louisiana will always be a shithole.

LOL, you guys are so fricking unrealistic. I live near the New bridge, yesterday at 4:30 pm, on a Friday, there were like 30 cars on it... Eastbound would normally be backed up for miles and Westbound would be bumper to bumper. It takes me 10 minutes to get from Govt to Seigen and Perkins at noon. Quit being so dramatic little girls.

Are you kidding? The Sheriff's Association endorsed JBE. Also, they don't want to see a cut in monies they receive for holding all those state DOC prisoners in their parish jails.

At the same time sheriffs are taking a very severe hit with complete shut off of court-generated revenue....fines, court cost, cuts of DA diversion fees, bond forfeitures for failing to appear.
