Senator Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) introduced a bill Tuesday preventing the federal government from providing funding for the 2026 FIFA World Cup until the United States Soccer Federation agrees to equal pay for its men's and women's national teams.
"No federal funds may be appropriated or otherwise made available to provide support for the 2026 World Cup, including support for a host city, a participating State or local agency, the United States Soccer Federation, the Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF), or the Federation de Football Association (FIFA), until the date on which the United States Soccer Federation agrees to provide equitable pay," the bill reads.
quote:
In March, 28 members of the U.S. women's national team filed a lawsuit against the U.S. Soccer Federation accusing U.S. Soccer of gender discrimination.
quote:
Manchin received a letter from West Virginia's women's soccer coach Nikki Izzo-Brown about the equal pay discussion, prompting Manchin to propose the bill.
"The clear unequitable pay between the U.S. men's and women's soccer teams is unacceptable and I'm glad the U.S. Women's Soccer Team latest victory is causing public outcry," Manchin said in a statement. "They are the best in the world and deserve to be paid accordingly."

This is just so dumb.
And people wondered why we were rooting for them to lose.

Like so many leftist pet causes, the interest in promoting women/minorities/etc. is premised upon the punishment of people outside of those classes.
They can't just celebrate the USWNT, they have to shite on the USMNT in the process.

Think i read women make 13% of revenue and men make 9%. Those guys are gonna be pumped about that 4% bump for equality

He left out one key word. I added it for him.

Taking quite a grand stand there, Joe.
These people are worthless.

Sports is entertainment. This should be based solely on revenue...no tax payer dollars should go towards it at all...unless voters ok it.

Have them play the shitty US Men's team and if They don't lose by 20+ goals then we can talk!

How is the USSF even funded? I bet this is a worthless virtue signaling bill that means nothing in effect.

Someone needs to give Joe an economics lesson. There's a reason why the prize pool for the women's World Cup was only $30 million total and $4 million to the winning team while the means tournament had a prize pool of $400 million and $38 million to the winners.
Outside of this board talking about Rapinoe and her protesting, nobody I knew really mentioned anything about the USWNT on social media until the day of the championship game. In the men's World Cup, people are taking the day off work and all going to the bar or hosting watch parties for the men's team if they make it to the round of 16.

My goodness these people are stupid, it is not a gender issue it is an economic issue. Women's Soccer wants equal pay than they need to equal the revenue that the men bring in.

Now force the WNBA to pay their best players the same as the top NBA players. They are the best women in the world and deserve to be paid accordingly.

When they can beat a team of 15 year old boys, I'll think about giving them a raise.

Something else to distract from the real issues. As usual, this will backfire based on the amount of revenue. Dems can't think forward

You would think they win every year not 4 or 5 times
