Sounds like you grab that principal by the pussy and didn't let go until he capitulated.

I would have been suspended a million times with this policy

I remember we would make guns out of index cards and play with them at recess

We would draw pictures of violence. For art class in 7th grade I drew a picture of people on the ground shooting down a plane and the parachuters getting shot down by missiles and it was hung in the hallway

Same here. Dodge ball probably is now viewed as a violent sport

Dude I used to draw Civil War battles as doodles, you don't see my heading up the League of the South, though.

Let's not pretend that these kids don't see 10x worse on television and cinema, unless they have strict parents.

frick you, you idiot.

The kid did the assignment exactly as it was assigned and got pulled from class like an outcast criminal and was threatened to have his right to an education removed.

These zero tolerance policies are reflective of a moronic group of leaders at every level.

I can't stand when people refuse to use their brains and take things on a case by case basis.

He obviously followed the assignment, and it's not his fault that is the book they assigned him.

Schools are so sensitive now... it's ridiculous.

Good they need to frick off.

If the teacher didn't want a gun in a picture, she should have done a better job picking out books.

So, can we assume that the teacher will be suspended for assigning a book to a fifth grader that ends in a murder?

Exactly, took the words right out of my mouth.

Take comfort from the fact that you did the right thing. It's a shame you had to threaten the principal with exposing their bullshittery, but that's on the administration and not you.

100% of the blame for this fiasco goes on the teacher, with some going to the principal for not having the common sense to understand the difference between something done as part of an assignment and something done as a malicious and threatening act.

It makes me wonder who the true child is in this scenario.

I don't even see what's wrong with depicting a gun.

When I was OP's kid's age, I knew how to handle, clean, and fire a gun - I've managed to never be filled with violent rage or the need to kill anyone.

Making kids freak out over guns isn't going to help anything.

I went through something somewhat like this with my middle son. You have never ever seen me more pissed off. By the time I was done they cancelled the suspension.

I would be looking into a private school or homeschooling if I were you. The schools have gone full blown retarded with a capital R.

your vitriol is misplaced.

I said in my post its dumb. I simply see how the image would cause a school administrator pause, especially with all the talk of assassinations about these days.

Kid should experience no push back and the teacher reprimanded, but as a neutral party (it's not my kid), I can see how a principle would think "wtf".

Hell, the op himself said he admitted the picture was inappropriate.

Try to keep up.
